Bronte Nieuwenburg has outlined her selections and suggested game plan for Thursday's card at Ballarat.
R1 – 5.05pm – Ballarattrottingclub.com.au Mares Pace – 1710m
2 – Olivia Rose
1 – Lady In Line
12 – Major Drama
8 – Viva Storm
R2 – 5.34pm – Alabar Vicbred Platinum Trotting Mares Sprint Championship (1st Heat) – 1710m
10 – Aldebaran Brooke
11 – Mega Spur
8 – Rubys Dream
4 – Romantic Nina
Aldebaran Brooke and Mega Spur are the standout trotting mares in this field at this stage of their careers, and they’re also performing very well sectionally. I’m leaning towards Aldebaran Brooke, as she has a slightly better barrier and has performed well on this track. Mega Spur hasn’t raced at Bendigo and is yet to win when racing off the fence, which she will need to do here.
BACK: 10 Aldebaran Brooke – 2.5 units (win)
R3 – 6.00pm – Girls Night Out 12th June Pace (Heat) – 2200m
6 – My Kgari
9 – Lady Salina
8 – Marjendos
2 – Im The Wild One
My Kgari resumes here but did win a recent trial at Bacchus Marsh. The penny looked to drop for her towards the end of last preparation, when she put together a string of encouraging performances. She’s likely to have grown and developed during her time off since last year, which is also reflected in her hopples being lengthened, and with natural improvement, she’s the runner I have on top.
BACK: 6 My Kgari – 2.5 units (win)
R4 – 6.29pm – Del Re National 3yo & Older Maiden Pace – 2200m
9 – Whiskeydrinkingbill
4 – Are Weasley
7 – Segui Le Stella
8 – Talkbabytalk
Whiskeydrinkingbill has been racing well this preparation, often finishing in the top four. Barrier nine is a good draw at Ballarat, and he has options from there. He finds a suitable race to break through for his maiden victory.
BACK: 9 Whiskeydrinkingbill – 2.5 units (win)
R5 – 6.59pm – Alfredton Laundry Pace – 1710m
2 – Amphijet
10 – Royal Saxon
5 – Wichita Kansas
9 – Bettes Blue Violet
Although Amphijet looks the winner here, Royal Saxon is clearly my second pick. His sectional times this preparation have been fantastic, even if his numerical form doesn’t reflect it. He’ll need some luck, but he shapes as a strong place chance.
BACK: 10 Royal Saxon – 2.5 units (place)
R6 – 7.30pm – Black Horse Naturals – 2200m
2 – Speedy Healy
5 – Jay Bee
4 – Home And Dry
3 – Lester
R7 – 8.00pm – Ballarat Vet Practice 2yo Maiden Pace – 1710m
3 – Eyeneedthat
8 – I Sea Red
2 – Soho Washington
7 – Sweet Irish Loch
