Goodform Gameplan: Albion Park Sat 17th July

I’m confident we can get off to a winning start here with the mile specialist MAYWYNS BEST (5) who should relish a return to his comfort zone. It was fastest finger first stuff when he amazingly went up at $6 for this guy whose past couple have been against the big hitters while prior to that he had 3 successive starts over the long trip from the tapes. #LeaderPeter can do his thing here and this looks right in his wheelhouse.

SUGGESTED BET:  $40 to win MAYWYNS BEST (5) $2.60 or better

This South East Derby is a very tough race to bring together as the two Victorians BONDI LOCKDOWN (5) and BAR ROOM BANTA (2) arrive and add another element to assess. There will be some heat in the run here as BIG WHEELS (3) will be rolling early. CAPTAIN CRUSADER (11) was good to us last week and I see no reason why a top run cannot be replicated.

SUGGESTED BET: $10 each-way CAPTAIN CRUSADER (11) $10 or better

Like the boys, this race for the girls looks a tough contest. While SPORTY DANCER (4) does look the horse to beat, I feel she is below the rock bottom price. TALENT TO SPARE (5) loves to roll in front and will be putting the heat into this but for mine is still suspect at the 2138m trip. At a price, I am keen to have a dabble on JASPER (10), who was strong last week, will appreciate the longer trip here and at the price looks a better play than some of her opponents.

SUGGESTED BET: $5 win / $15 place JASPER (10) $10 or better.

The big Group 1 DJA Final looks in the market a match in two despite it being a capacity field. The bonny little Victorian mare PINK GALAHS (13) will need to be at her absolute best to take this and I think she is up to the task- she just needs to follow a helmet rather than being left exposed wide out. HUMBLE LADD (12) as the market suggests is the main danger. I also give NORTHERN MUSCLE (10) a place chance at huge odds with his good manners and getting forward early.

SUGGESTED BET: $20 win PINK GALAHS (13) $3.2 or better, $20 place NORTHERN MUSCLE (10) $15 or better.

The hype has been there on SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (5) and this is his race to stand up. The market looks to have him right at around $2.50 and that looks a nice enough price to bite into. Nothing really ate into the deficit last week in The Rising Sun but SEND IT (12) ran some electric sections back in the field. He opened at a crazy $9.50 in this race which has since been snavelled but I give him big chance of throwing down a serious challenge.

SUGGESTED BET: $20 win SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS (5) $2.50 or better

Punters are a fickle bunch and after ignoring AMAZING DREAM (4) last week when she scored at huge odds, they have been happy enough to keep stumping up on her to see her deep into the sauce. SPELLBOUND (1) was game when carting the winner into the race last week and holds the keys to this contest from the ace and I thought she could defeat the stablemate.  This looks a perfect race to play the exotics.

There is speed galore off the front line in this Sunshine Sprint with my map putting TURN IT UP (7) in front from the wide gate. He is going better than his numbers suggest and he is a live chance at a big price. KING OF SWING (11) has been untouchable at the mile since crossing the Nullabor but this will be new territory for him. I do not see that being a concern and he can brutalise the opposition once again. I can also entertain the place price ($2.80+) for COLT THIRTY ONE (10) who should get a perfect trip.

SUGGESTED BET: $20 to win KING OF SWING (11) $2.20 or better

I am keen on one here in the shape of the Bernie Hewitt trained ROCK FISHERMAN (2). He boasts good speed out of the machine which should avoid him hitting any snags early. His effort 2 runs back was the run of an impending winner and last time was undone by gate 13. There have not been any early nibbles which has seen his price drift, but I marked him my best of the night and think we can reel one in here.

SUGGESTED BET: $40 to win ROCK FISHERMAN (2) $3.80 or better

RANGER BOMB (7) has been his own worst enemy this campaign and the ODM status has made it tough for him. He is a live chance in an open race where there looks some tempo in tight. ROCKNROLL CLASSIC (1) loves to roll out in front and has a good record at the middle-distance so has ideal conditions here but has already been well found firming right up. THE CROUPIER (3) is searching for a hat-trick of wins and can be entertained at anything above $4.50.

SUGGESTED BET: Watching here now the price is gone for ROCKNROLL CLASSIC (1) but the winner comes from either the 1,3 or 7.

FUTURE ASSURED (4) is arguably the most progressive colt heading to next week’s QBRED Triad Finals but he has to overcome the star filly CAT KING COLE (1) in this lead up event. The filly has shown that she is a very smart juvenile and looks a very well-rounded and versatile type. From the gate she holds all the options despite a field of just 7, we can go hard at the exotics to close the night.
