Today’s celebratory carrot cake will be a firey affair for Why Worry such will be the mass of candles for the Cup-winning trotter, who’s turned 34.
Celebrated by her owners the Abrahams family as their best ever trotter, Why Worry lives out her days at David Abrahams’ farm where she is a nanny to all the yearlings.
She was born on November 13th in 1989 after the family bred their broodmare Bother, daughter of former Pacing Broodmare of The Year Bonnie Cross, to American pacing stallion Electric Guitar.
The last thing they expected was for the richly pacing-bred filly to become one of the fastest trotting mares of her time.
Why Worry was broken in as a pacer but never showed a lot of ability in that gait. However, her natural trotting talent blossomed and so connections tried her as a squaregaiter, going on to win 20 races from 71 starts.
Trained by Russell Thompson, a good friend of owner Kevin Abrahams, Why Worry won 12 races at Moonee Valley highlighted by her wins in the B Skeggs Trot Cup and Scotch Notch Memorial in 1998.
Although her successful career never resulted in a group race win, David Abrahams noted “she also ran into Knight Pistol”.
Why Worry went on to become a successful broodmare, with all her progeny racing as trotters, six of them contesting Group 1 finals. The most notable was Im Chilled who placed in the Redwood Classic and two and four-year-old Breeders Crowns’ finals.
Her lineage is still making an impact on the track with her grandchildren Everysecondcounts, Inmydreams and Thats Your Opinion all racing this season.
We wish you the best 34th Birthday, Why Worry.
