It’s a moment he’s dreamed of for some time and Louis Emerson is now a winner in the sulky.

A grandson of legendary reinsman Brian Gath, Emerson piloted Mick Carbone-trained Chooz Reactor ($21) - a horse he also owns - to victory at Bendigo on Friday night.

Emerson sent the Auckland Reactor mare straight to the front and she was never headed on her way to a dominant front-running success in the Southern Cross Office Equipment (SCOE) Pace.

The 20-year-old’s maiden triumph comes at start six in the sulky and just over a month after making his debut at Shepparton in late June.

“It feels unreal to be honest,” Emerson told thetrots.com.au.

“It feels good to get the first win on the board and build my confidence as well.

“I honestly didn’t think I was going to win. It was a bit harder race for her and I thought there was plenty of gate speed around me. But after showing good gate speed and getting to the front, she ran a good race.”
