The forthcoming Del-Re National A. G. Hunter Cup may yet provide the definitive answer to the question on many lips – who’s Australia’s best pacer – after Gary Hall Snr pledged “100 per cent commitment” to bringing across Chicago Bull.

On the doorstep of tomorrow night’s TABTouch WA Pacing Cup, Gary Hall Snr joined RSN 927’s Green Light On and told Gareth Hall, Dan Mielicki and Adam Hamilton the Tabcorp Park Melton pacing classic was squarely in the frame of his stable champ.

“I will come to the Hunter Cup. The only thing that will stop me is if Bully’s not right or the restrictions don’t allow us to come,” Hall Snr said.

“But I’d love to come to the Hunter Cup, not to prove that he’s the best horse in Australia, because I don’t think that’s the case. I think that mantle’s still up for grabs in the next six months.

“He’s rising eight, this will be probably towards the end of his career. I haven’t won a Hunter Cup. I’ve been unlucky in a couple, and it’s a race I’d love to win. It’s always been one of the greatest races on the Australian harness racing calendar that I can think of. I’d love to come over, at this stage I’m 100 per cent committed.”

The Hunter Cup will again be the thrilling finale to the TAB Summer Of Glory on Saturday, February 6. It will be the fourth night of the carnival, which kicks off with the January 23 PETstock Ballarat Pacing Cup.

It then continues on January 30 at Tabcorp Park Melton with a $100,000 VHRC Caduceus 3YO Classic before the February 5 all-trotting celebration, featuring the $300,000 Woodlands Stud Great Southern Star, which returns to a one night heats-into-final format.

It was a bumper edition of Green Light On, with not only Hall Snr joining to update on Chicago Bull’s chances in tomorrow's Grand Circuit race at Gloucester Park, but Andy Gath and Emma Stewart previewing their chances at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday.

Additionally, Stewart said Ride High had “his scan last week” and “it wasn’t as great as what we were hoping, but nothing majorly wrong”.

“It’s just going to take a little bit more time than we hoped,” Stewart said of the pacing superstar, whose stunning winter campaign was cruelled by a suspensory injury. “He’s still ticking along here doing his rehab, he looks terrific, but it’s probably going to be a little bit longer than we thought.”
