Luckless pacer Sweet Face will be hoping start number 64 can bring a maiden victory in Monday afternoon’s Harness Breeders Victoria four-year-old Vicbred Maiden Pace at Maryborough.
The Glenn Bull-prepared gelding has featured in the placing three times, but has failed to be first past the post since his debut run back in December 2022 for then trainer John Justice.
“He lacks a bit of ability and does a few things wrong and gets bad draws and every time you think you have got him going, he will do something wrong,” Bull said.
“He can pace beautifully and then one day he can hang out and go up the track and things like that.”
While the son of Dressedforsuccess hasn’t been able to taste any success, Bull is confident the four-year-old’s day will come.
“I still think he can win a race and he gives me enough to think that if we get him right and he has a decent draw, he can be there abouts,” he said.
“He has had a lot of starts though.”
What the four-year-old lacks in wins he sure does make up for in character and heart according to the Salt Ash trainer-driver.
“You would not find a nicer horse if you tried, he is easy to do anything with and he is a very docile horse, but as soon as you get him on the track – he does grab the bit and want to go,” he said.
“He has slowly improved.”
Sweet Face has drawn two for the $6,000 event with Bull to pilot.
“If he does everything right, he should be there abouts on Monday,” he said. “He has got a little bit of gate speed.”
Sweet Face will feature in the fifth race on the card on 2024 Humbletonian Day at Maryborough Harness Racing Club.
