Andy Gath says Majestuoso’s recent work on the training track has been of the highest order and he’s ready to take him into battle first-up this Saturday night without the benefit of a trial.

Gath had his star squaregaiter nominated for a hit-out at Melton on Tuesday, but decided against it before the Group 3 Lenin Trotters Free For All at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The Long Forest trainer told Trots Talk that the six-time Group 1 winner was in “really good order” ahead of his fresh assignment this weekend.

“His work the last fortnight has been A+ which you expect for a horse of his quality. You expect him to be working really good,” Gath said.

“He's in a really good place.

“We've got no problem with him racing first-up. We know what to expect from him and we expect that he's going to be pretty close to spot on Saturday night.

“He generally draws the back row most of his races so it's nothing new for him, but he's good enough to overcome the bad draw and (I’m) looking forward to getting him back on the racetrack.”

Majestuoso has won his past four starts at Group 1 level, snaring the V L Dullard Trotters Cup, Great Southern Star Final, Knight Pistol and Australian Trotting Grand Prix through January and February before a spell.

Gath said the six-year-old was in line for a trip to Queensland for the winter carnival next month, with the long-term goal being the Inter Dominion Trotting Championships in Victoria later this year.

“It might do him good to learn to travel a little bit again,” Gath said regarding Queensland.

“That's always in the back of our mind that we might head up there in July, and then if he goes there, he can come back and have another little break again.”

Gath will take four horses to the races on Saturday night, with top pacer Tango Tara first-up since a sixth placing in February’s Terang Pacing Cup.

He will tackle the Hip Pocket Workwear Pace, while stablemates Peakz Luck (Happy Retirement Stephen Sullivan Trot) and Dadndave (Hygain Pace) are also resuming from breaks.

Yambukian was set for a return at Melton, but Gath has elected to trial the talented four-year-old again before sending him to the races.
