History awaits Dangerous in Mildura tomorrow night.
Winner of the club’s Cup in 2024, Dangerous is aiming to become the first former champion to regain the title since the feature’s inception in 1959.
The Shane Sanderson-trained stallion missed last season’s edition due to injury.
As it stands, only two pacers have registered multiple wins in the provincial event.
Son Of Nancy was the ground breaker in 1969 and ’70, with Sokyola completing a hat-trick in 2003, ’04 and ’05.
Sanderson also captured the 2023 Cup with Sahara Tiger.
Although he is pleased to have Dangerous in the field, Sanderson stated the son of Sweet Lou will have to improve dramatically from his heat run.
Dangerous only scraped into the $40,000 Listed Classic by finishing sixth.
“He was well below par last week, which he can’t do again,” Sanderson said. “We were disappointed the other night, but we’ve picked ourselves up and will go again.
“He’s pulled up fine and has been working as well as ever…it was just one of them runs I suppose.”
To be driven by Sanderon’s daughter Abby, who held the reins in 2024, Dangerous’ task has been made all-the-more difficult by an outside of the second row draw.
“It’s going to be tough, especially from the draw,” Sanderson said. “He’ll have to be right at his best in this.”
