Harness Racing Victoria's (HRV) new calendar will feature three tiers of prizemoney worth $12,000, $8000 and $7000, as part of the region-based racing model announced this morning.

The first two days of the new model will feature dual meetings at Ballarat (day) and Mildura (night) on Thursday followed by a further two meetings at Kilmore (day) and Bendigo (night) on Friday.

Racing then returns to Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night, when the program features three $12,000 races including open trotting and pacing races.

Stephen Bell, HRV General Manager of Racing, said the three tiers of prizemoney gave valuable flexibility to ensure participants across all five regions had a fair to chance to earn.

"We are entering new waters but this is an exciting opportunity to pursue a new model that can benefit all participants and help them maintain their livelihoods at a challenging time for all," Bell said.

"As part of the process we will be reviewing constantly and adapting as needed, and we are exploring the possibility of including additional meetings to give more opportunities to participants."
