“Just a dream come true" is how Noel Alexander describes Golden Reign's 1995 Inter Dominion triumph, the latest great edition of the race to be celebrated in the Legends of the Inter Dominion series.

Alexander, who co-trained Golden Reign with his partner Jayne Davies, tells of how the extraordinarily talented horse swept past a brilliant field to bring the trophy home from New Zealand. And what it meant to the stable.

"You go back to the days when we used to go to the trots, Vinny Knight with all his good horses, winning those major races," Alexander said. “I just thought we weren’t going to get those horses. They were for other people those races."

That all changed with one of the greatest horses in the greatest race series: the Inter Dominion, which returns to Victoria from December 1.

“It’s our showpiece," Alexander said. "That’s the ultimate, that’s the thing. You ask any driver, any trainer, any owner when they get involved in a horse: what do you want to achieve? I want to have an Inter Dominion winner.”
