Kerryn Manning has outlined a three-pronged pacing attack for December’s Inter Dominion, headlined by her star-studded mares.

The champion reinswoman joined John Thwaites on RSN 927 for his weekly ID18 Update and made it clear she’d love to get her hands on an Inter Dominion title when the great race series returns to Victoria in December.

“It’s one of the biggest races of the year,” Manning said. “Growing up it was always exciting to go to the Inter Dominion and obviously very hard to get a runner good enough to go in an Inter Dominion. It was one of those races you watched and not competed in.

“For the last 10 years I’ve been lucky enough to have some horses good enough to go in it, but it’s a tough race to win. It’s usually out of reach, but this year you never know.”

Manning outlined that Mr Mojito, Ameretto and Our Golden Goddess would all likely be directed towards ID18, which culminates with a December 15 grand final at Tabcorp Park Melton.

“(Mr Mojito)’s just come back in and started his fast work now, so he’s going to get a couple months of good racing in before they start,” Manning said. “He should have good fitness by the time the Inter comes around.

“I never know what’s going on in his head – he’s a bit tricky to work out – if he did step up to the plate he’s certainly a horse who should commit himself well, but it depends on his mental attitude a little bit.”

Ameretto has the runs on the board and all horses who have beaten her home in the Hunter and Victoria cups, when she finished fifth and second respectively, have been ruled out of ID18.

“She’s just kept stepping up,” she said. “She’s a bit of a surprise packet when you look at her. She’s quite small and there’s not a lot to her. She runs a bit funny with her head down and just puts everything into her races.

“She’s got great speed when saved for one run or two, so that’s held her quite good in races like the Hunter Cup, where she had a good sit and run home well, and the Victoria Cup as well, where she did the same against the boys.

“She’s certainly got the credentials for a race like the Inter Dominion. It’s quite exciting for her. It’s in her backyard and she gets a chance to run against the boys and be quite competitive.”

And then there’s Our Golden Goddess, who returns in Saturday night’s Hygain Our Maestro Free For All at Tabcorp Park Melton.

“She works pretty good times and really average at times, but she goes to the races and puts her best foot forward,” Manning said. “She’s got some talent, that’s for sure. She’s certainly one who could possibly take that next step. The Inter Dominion is a race that’s a possibility for her.”
