Haras Des Trotteurs principal Pat Driscoll has a tough decision to make after once again holding a slot for the $600,000 TAB Trot in New Zealand.
The principal selected French import Callmethebreeze for last year’s edition of the race that was taken out by champion squaregaiter Just Believe.
The Northern Hemisphere import driven by Nathan Jack finished second.
Callmethebreeze missed defending his Great Southern Star title defence after suffering a foot issue, but is back in work and ready to target a Grand Circuit classic in Queensland.
“Callmethebreeze is back in work and his major target will be the Queensland Inters and that is what we hope to get him back and ready for,” Driscoll said.
With the European import ruled out of a trip to New Zealand a number of other stable stars could come to the fore.
“We will wait and see there is a few options,” Driscoll said. “I have got Im Ready Jet and she goes very well and well fresh, who could be ready for it.”
Driscoll is putting his faith in recently anointed five-time Great Southern Star master trainer Andy Gath to help with his final decision.
“Andy could train a donkey at the moment,” he joked. “We will wait and see and there will be a little bit of intrigue,” he said. “There a number of other good horses that haven’t been taken either.
“I will talk to Andy (Gath) and talk to a number others, but at the moment I have no hard and fast starter.”
A mix of other Victorians are set to contest the Friday April 4 slot race. The Brent Lilley-trained Queen Elida is set to join the line up alongside the Marg and Paddy Lee-trained Keayang Chucky who has also been speculated to make the trip across the ditch.
