TWO-TIME Victoria Cup champion Lennytheshark will take the first steps on to the Tabcorp Park Melton track when all eyes draw on to the main straight ahead of Saturday night’s showcase Grand Circuit race.
David Aiken’s champion pacer, who also won an Inter Dominion and a Miracle Mile, will have the honour of leading out the Pryde’s EasiFeed Victoria Cup as Harness Racing Victoria continues its celebration of the sport’s champions.
Coming only a week after Smoken Up thrilled fans last Saturday, in addition to his on-track duties Lennytheshark will also station in stall 13 at Melton, where trots fans can enjoy a ‘meet and greet’ with the legend, replete in his prized Victoria Cup rug.
And he won’t be the only former track star in attendance, with Kasbah Kid to lead out The Make Mine Cullen, Downbytheseaside Victoria Derby, Aldebaran Park Bill Collins Trotters Sprint and Pryde’s EasiFeed Victoria Oaks.
While his career may not have reached Lennytheshark’s heights, the 16-time winner Kasbah Kid has also proven himself a star off the track in the care of Fox Equestrian’s Mitch Fox and Brooke Sweeney.
He’s now an ambassador for HRV Hero, Harness Racing Victoria’s celebrated beyond the track program, and with Fox will represent the brand proudly on Victoria Cup night.
THERE will be sure to be more than just a splash of red among the Tabcorp Park race goers with brilliant mare Ladies In Red to make her race return in The Make Mine Cullen.
Considered a once-in-a-generation talent, the brilliant four-year-old has captured hearts and will be celebrated with a range of merchandise, which can be snapped up trackside from the Trots Shop marquee.
Also for sale will be limited quantities of the Smoken Up t-shirts, part of the Back Track range that now also features Lennytheshark. Pre-order yours at thetrots.shop.
Ladies In Red will also be celebrated with a special pre-race anthem, while a life-sized cut out will be in the Tabcorp Park Melton foyer, where you can slide into the sulky and have your picture taken behind the brilliant mare.
Race goers can also enter an on-track competition to guess what time The Make Mine Cullen will be run in. With a $500 Catanach’s Jewellers voucher up for grabs, make sure to see on-track staff and make your guess before Ladies In Red and a stellar field of mares steps out for race three at 7pm.
ALSO on show Saturday night will be the fastest things on four little legs and two wheels.
The Hygain Pony Trots Victoria Cup is one of the biggest nights on the pony trots calendar and the next champ will emerge at 6.35pm.
There will also be a prelude race at 6.05pm, with the presentations to follow at 7.15pm on the lawn. Keep an eye on ponytrotsvic.com.au for details, and be sure to follow ‘Pony Trots Victoria’ on Facebook and TikTok.
BUT wait, there’s more!
Tabcorp Park Melton will also have a host of activities for race goers, including an outdoor market hosted by Urban Markets, free children’s rides and activities, a DJ on the lawn and the hugely popular Food Truck Precinct.
Be sure to get there ahead of the first race at 6pm, with a stunning 11-race card to enjoy at the home of Victorian harness racing.
