THERE is nothing strange about seeing the name Justice contesting a top shelf event.
In fact, Justice appears on nearly ever major honour roll throughout Australia.
Take Lance Justice for example, he’s won four Miracle Miles, A G Hunter, Victoria and South Australia Cups and a little race called the Inter Dominion!
Along with winning premierships in two states, Lance was named a Living Legend in 2016.
At Melton Park on Saturday night Justice will again be chasing Group One glory – only this time it is one of the youngest members of the clan.
In her first season as a trainer, Leilani Justice – daughter of Lance – has a runner in the Australia’s oldest classic – Victoria Derby.
An ultra-consist performer, which five placings from his last six starts, Final Collect earned a berth in the Blue Riband by finishing third in a heat won by Petracca.
“I was rapt with his run in the heat and it is so exciting to have him in the Derby,” Leilani said. “Just to be in a race like this is great.”
To be driven by Jackie Barker, Final Collect is the rank outsider at $151 with TAB Fixed Odds after drawing the outside of the back row.
Petracca heads the market at $2.40 from barrier 10.
“He’s going to need all the luck in the world, but you’ve got to be in it to win it,” Leilani said. “There is not much we can do from the draw except hope for a good run and look for luck.
“Either way, I’m proud of him for making the Final and know he will be doing his best.”
