After 20 months in the dark, the Ararat Harness Racing Club track will soon have new lights.

Holding day meetings since mid-2021, work is now well under way to complete the new lights in time for trials to start ahead of the Ararat Pacing Cup meeting on March 31. All up, 26 cement footings are now complete and cabling has been installed, with light masts to be installed later this week.

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is funding the cost of the lights, with contribution from Ararat Harness Racing Club.

Club President Phillip Ralph said the new lights would be welcomed by the community.

“Ararat harness community look forward to the Ararat Advocate Pacing Cup each year so it’s exciting that we’ll have lights in time for this year’s event. In recent years, the Cup records have been beaten six consecutive times so we’re hoping for another exciting set of racing come March,” Ralph said.
