Driver Luke McCarthy dominated last week’s two-year-old semi-finals of the Breeders Challenge but he knows he will have his work cut out beating Hardhitter with Lochinvar Art (trained by Laura Crossland, pictured) in the colts and geldings final at Menangle next Sunday.
Hardhitter lowered the colours of Muscle Factory with McCarthy in the gig in the second semi-final, running a 1.52.7 mile, which was significantly faster than Lochinvar Art.
“I was filling in for Chris Alford on Hardhitter and it is definitely the one to beat in the final,” McCarthy said.
“It can get off the gate and has a good draw to lead in the final.
“Lochinvar Art will probably take a spot in the running line and it will be whether we can run hm down. He has the class to do it.”
