Meteor returns with a victory on Kilmore Cup night

The Emma Stewart trained Meteor Moth completed a successful harness racing return to the racetrack when he led all the way in the Reg Withers (3YO) Classic at Kilmore on Friday night.

Having his first outing since February, Meteor Moth speared across to find the lead from his outside front row draw while the $1.50 favourite Hes From Heaven was forced to lead up the outside division and sit parked for the last 1600 metres.

Mark Pitt allowed Meteor Moth more rein down the back straight and the Emma Stewart prepared colt strode away from his rivals to score by two metres from Our Luciano in a mile rate of 1:57.6.

Meteor Moth is raced by prominent owner Len Parker who also bred the son of American Ideal.

“It’s a surprise because he’s been a bit of a problem this horse, even though he’s had four starts for four wins,” Parker said.

“He’s got quirky ways with him and Emma’s opted to leave the head check off him and he seems to be better with it off,” he said.

Parker said Meteor Moth is still a work in progress despite his unbeaten status.

“Emma has always said that he will develop into a handy horse, he’s just a bit of a dumb bugger,” he said.

Later in the night Parker completed a feature race breeding double when Major Moth led all the way in the Kilmore Pacing Cup.
