The Minister for Racing, the Hon. Anthony Carbines, has appointed Adam Wallish to Harness Racing Victoria’s Board, adding extensive strategic and leadership experience.
Mr Wallish was appointed for a three-year term yesterday, having returned to Victoria after almost eight years with Racing Queensland, including the last six years as Executive General Manager Operations.
Mr Carbines congratulated Mr Wallish on his appointment.
“Mr Wallish has dedicated his career to advancing racing, and his expertise, knowledge, and experience will greatly benefit Harness Racing Victoria,” Mr Carbines said.
Mr Wallish becomes the fifth member of the HRV Board, joining chair Bernard Saundry, Judy Rothacker, Dennis Bice, and John Doherty.
Mr Saundry said Mr Wallish would be a valuable addition to the team, bringing vast industry and governance capability.
“Adam has been a leading harness racing voice in his time at Racing Queensland and will make a terrific Board member,” Mr Saundry said.
“Harness racing in Victoria is in a significant transition, and Adam’s extensive experience guiding sporting organisations to a surer footing will be invaluable.”
At Racing Queensland, a tri-code authority, Mr Wallish helped improve harness racing in the north-eastern state, including serving as its Harness Racing Australia representative for four years.
He was previously chief executive officer of Greyhound Racing Victoria from 1996-2000 and 2012-2015 and has held leadership positions at Little Athletics Australia, Hockey Victoria, and Greyhound Racing New South Wales.
“I am very enthusiastic about joining the HRV Board at this time and do so knowing there are significant challenges in front of us, some of which are unique to harness racing in Victoria and some that extend to all Australian racing codes,” Mr Wallish said.
“For much of my career, I have helped reshape and build organisations, and I look forward to bringing that strategic thinking to Harness Racing Victoria.”
