Chariots of Fire and Miracle Mile champion Catch A Wave will soon be back in the public eye, with trainer Andy Gath expected to trial the star four-year-old in the coming weeks.
The son of Captaintreacherous spelled following his back-to-back heroics at Menangle in late February and early March before returning to Gath’s Long Forest stables in mid-April.
And the master horseman has offered nothing but positive reports in regards to the early part of Catch A Wave’s campaign as he looks to claim victory in the world’s richest harness race – the $2.1million TAB Eureka – in early September.
“Today was probably the first time we’ve worked him close to capacity – he worked with Magnetic Terror,” Gath said.
“He will trial in two weeks, three weeks at the latest.
“He’s in great order. He’s probably carrying the most condition he’s ever had in his life. He’s probably grown a little bit and really filled out.
“He was already quite a powerful horse, but he’s probably got a little bit more powerful body-wise.”
Gath said he had opted for a slow and steady training program for the horse.
“We’ve been able to do what we wanted to do, so it’s so far so good,” Gath said.
“The next two weeks is probably the most important because he’ll be working to capacity now.”
Catch A Wave will compete in the TAB Eureka for slot holders Cordina Racing and is rated a $3.50 second favourite behind superstar Queensland pacer Leap To Fame ($3.20).
Captain Ravishing, who stunned the racing world when he broke the Melton track record with victory in a Breeders Crown final last November, is third elect at $5, while TAB runner The Lost Storm is an $8 chance.
The Eureka is open to three and four-year-old Australian-bred pacers, with the inaugural running set down for Menangle on September 2.
