Ouyen Cup: Champs chase into Perspective

Perspective will make a bold play for the Trots Country Cups Championship in Sunday’s Greggs Electrical Ouyen Pacing Cup, but series leader Buster Brady is not about to go quietly into the night.

Perspective shot into contention with Sunday’s last-gasp win in the Boort Pacing Cup, ascending to 14 points in the championship, just eight shy of Buster Brady.

Victory in this Sunday’s Ouyen Cup would snare a further five points for Perspective in the $25,000 championship with cups at Horsham (March 31), Mildura (April 13) and Warragul (April 21) to run.

But Kima Frenning, trainer-driver of Buster Brady, said the winner of the Maryborough, Echuca, Cobram and Geelong cups would defend his hold on the crown.

“He will go to Horsham at the end of the month for their cup,” Frenning said.

“He’s had a little freshen up, he’s had the water walker, he will come back tomorrow and all things being well (Horsham) is where he’s going.”

The reinswoman told RSN 927’s One Out One Back that the championship had become a primary aim for the team.

“When we went out and won his couple of cups it became a bit more of a goal than a dream,” she said.

“There are a lot of nice horses going around in the country cups at the moment, hopefully we can hang on. It would be awesome to win, not just the money, to win the country cups championship is pretty special, but still a couple of country cups still to go, so we will see.”

Before Horsham the spotlight will be on Sunday’s Greggs Electrical Ouyen Pacing Cup, the $14,500 feature at 5.53pm, when Tim O’Brien-trained Perspective will start off the inside of the back row beside favourite Brallos Pass.
