Pony Trots Victoria is ready to rock and roll revealing a big calendar of racing to see out 2022.

The season kicks off with a Shepparton training day on August 20 and the hits will keep coming as the pony trotters not only take in the Inter Dominion, with three heats and a final, but also a Hygain Pony Trots Country Cups Championship.

Encompassing eight cup meetings, beginning with Shepparton on September 16 and ending at Cranbourne with a Christmas celebration on December 17, the short Championship season is a terrific taste of the great fun to come.

From 2023 Pony Trots Victoria will host two big series each year; the season-long Hygain Pony Trots Country Cups Championship and the new and elevated Hygain Summer of Glory Metropolitan Series.

“It’s going to be terrific to see the competitors battling in two high profile series that will reward both excellence and consistency,” Pony Trots Victoria co-ordinator Jenni Lewis said.

“The 2022 championship will be a great pre-cursor to a big 2023, and in addition the calendar also has some great training days and discretionary meetings that should make for a lot of fun and great competition.”

The 2022 Inter Dominion looms as a particular highlight, with qualifying heats at Melton (November 12 and 18) and Shepparton (November 29) before the December 10 final. Drivers and ponies will be invited from each state and New Zealand. To celebrate the series Harness Racing Victoria and Pony Trots Victoria will host a ID22 Pony Trot Celebration dinner on the eve of the final.

Other notable initiatives include a maximum age increase from 16 to 17 years old, in line with other states, and for the first time pony trots participants will be provided with essential training to make the transition to becoming a junior driver easier, including media exposure, integrity education and pony nutrition information.
