Prominent couple Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars will attempt to equal a long-standing record this weekend.

With runners in both Inter Dominion Finals at Albion Park on Saturday night, the husband-and-wife team are looking to become just the second trainer and driver to win each division in the same year.

At Alexandra Park in 1975, John Langdon drove Young Quinn to victory in the Pacers’ Final and Castleton’s Pride in the trotters’ decider, with the winners trained by Charlie Hunter.

Power couple Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen achieved a similar feat in 2019.

Also at Alexandra Park, Purdon and Rasmussen co-trained both winners, with Purdon driving Winterfll in the Trotters’ Final and Rasmussen partnering Ultimate Sniper to glory in the pacers’ division.

As for Tubbs and Sugars, they will be represented by star squaregaiter Just Believe, which is a $1.15 TAB Fixed Odds favourite to successfully defend the title he won last year.

Should Just Believe emerge triumphant, he will become the first trotter to complete two Inter Dominion clean sweeps consisting of three heats and a Final.

To be driven by Sugars, Just Believe has drawn to find the lead from barrier four.

The situation is a little tougher among the pacers, with Tubbs and Sugars relying on $12 chance, Better Eclipse.

Boasting two wins and a second from the qualifiers, Better Eclipse faces a daunting task from the middle of the second row.

Half-brothers Swayzee and Leap To Fame head betting markets at $2.20 and $2.40 from barriers three and six.
