Goulburn Valley horseman Mark Lee has a 100 per cent strike rate at the Australasian Premier Trotting Sale.
“I’ve only had two horses from the sale and they’re both winners,” Lee declared.
Col Du Galibier, a $9000 buy at the inaugural APTS in 2013, won six races and $60,198 in stakes, and Miss Tipsy, bought for $7000 at the 2017 auction, has won five races to date – all at Shepparton - for $37,650.
Miss Tipsy further underlined her potential with a gritty, last stride win in a career-best 2:02.4 rate over 2190 metres at Kialla Raceway on Tuesday night.
“My mother (Kerrie) picked her out at the yearling sale. She really liked her pedigree,” Lee said.
Miss Tipsy is a cleverly named mare, being by the fast American import Bacardi Lindy out of the successful racemare Enjoy A Champers.
Lee broke in the mare and has trained her throughout her five-year career.
He and his wife, Stacey Towers, prepare a team of 13 – mainly trotters – on a 90-acre property at Tallygaroopna, near Shepparton.
Another APTS graduate to win recently was the Love You gelding Locksley Lover, who notched his fourth success from 10 starts at Shepparton on April 6. He was secured for $22,000 by John Nissen at the 2019 sale.
