Freakish squaregaiter Keayang Zahara is on the verge of creating several slices of history.
In what is an astonishing achievement, Keayang Zahara has the potential of rewriting the record books within the next month, having only had roughly 25 starts!
As a result of her success in Melton last night, the five-year-old’s record sits on 21 wins and a second from 22 outings for earnings of $925,035.
Keayang Zahara’s latest victory in the Aldebaran Park Maori Mile, gave her an incredible 11 Group Ones.
With trainers Marg and Paddy Lee targeting several of Victoria’s majors with the daughter of Volstead in coming weeks, Keayang Zahara appears destined to take her bankroll past $1million.
As such, Keayang Zahara will become the first Australian-bred trotting mare in the ‘Millionaire’s Club’.
There is also the potential for Keayang Zahara to become the southern hemisphere’s richest trotting mare – a title belonging to Queen Elida with earnings of $1,103,470.
Queen Elida was retired with 37 wins and 34 placings from 88 starts.
Then there is the prospect of Keayang Zahara collecting Harness Racing Victoria’s $500,000 bonus.
In what can only be described as a phenomenal promotion, HRV will pay the sum to any trotter which wins four specified races.
One of those victories has to be in the Great Southern Star.
Bonuses are not included in a trotter or pacer’s earnings.
Driven by Glen Craven during her latest outing, Keayang Zahara led throughout from barrier three to complete a five-metre win from Arcee Phoenix.
Im Bobby was four metres away third as the winner rated 1:55.7 over 1720 metres.
“It gives you goosebumps sitting behind her,” Craven said. “She felt like she was doing it pretty comfortably and I didn’t ask much of her.”
Shepprton is scheduled to host the second leg of the bonus circuit next Saturday night, followed by Ballarat in a fortnight.
Cranbourne is programmed to take centre stage on January 31, before Kilmore on February 7 and the Great Southern Star in Melton on Valentine’s Day.
The Lees have yet to decide which features Keayang Zahara will contest.
“We’ll see how she recovers before we map out a plan of where she goes over the next six weeks,” Paddy said.
