Region-based leaderboards reveal new Victorian state of play

Emma Stewart’s top of the training pops but only narrowly ahead of Andy Gath, while Chris Alford continues to ‘rein’ supreme in the East but there are driving battles for the ages in Central, Inner West and North-West rehgions.

The state of play after two-and-a-half weeks of region-based racing has been revealed with the release of interactive tables for trainers, drivers and horses on thetrots.com.au.

In the Central division, drivers Alex Ashwood and Ellen Tormey are locked together on eight wins apiece from 23 starts and 22 starts respectively, while Glenn Douglas has been the most proliffic trainer for his six wins from 31 outings.

With a barnstorming five wins at Tabcorp Park on Saturday night, Greg Sugars (12 wins) claimed the upper hand from Ryan Duffy (11 wins) in Inner West, where Emma Stewart’s eight training wins from 20 starts has her narrowly ahead of Andy Gath’s seven wins from 29 starts.

Reece Moore and Dwayne Locke are in a terrific drivers’ battle in the North West, with six wins a piece, while Chris Alford (15 wins) is taking all before him among drivers in the East, where Gary and Deb Quinlan (6 wins) are the leading trainers.

Josh Aiken (7 wins) has got a jump on the competition in the North East, while out West Jackie Barker, James Herbertson and Jason Lee are tied together on four driving wins apiece, just one clear of Glen Craven. Marg Lee (6 wins) has been the most proliffic trainer.

And eight horses have each produced two victories since the transformation to region-based racing on April 2, those being Scruffy Doolan, Its Back In The Day and Egodan in the Inner West, Renway Reactor and Gunning in the North East, Storm Cloud in the East, Jilliby Sylvester in the West and Elegant Jewel in Central.
