Rising Sun field revealed as Vics chase northern glory

The much anticipated field for the Group 1 Rising Sun has been revealed this afternoon.

After five invites were already issued, the final seven horses were selected from 18 nominations of three and four-year-old pacers.

Star Victorian Ladies in Red will be the only mare in the talented field and will draw directly outside three-year-olds Leap to Fame, Ripp and Tims A Trooper (emergency) courtesy of the race’s preferential barrier draw system.

The remaining four-year-olds will then be randomly drawn at tonight’s all-important barrier draw shown on Sky 2 at 7pm.

Victoria will play a strong hand with the Russell Jack trained Spring In His Step earning his spot along with the Emma Stewart trained Beyond Delight and recent Group 1 winner Sebs Choice, who starts for trainer John Nicholson.

Chariots of Fire winner Better Eclipse received his invite after his Group 1 triumph in February for Jess Tubbs, with reinsman Greg Sugars making the trip north over the weekend for the feature.
