Horses are special animals. They can provide us with thrills, joy and excitement, but they can also be a source of comfort and help bring families together in a time of need.

And this is certainly the case with two-year-old pacer Rupert Ross.

Prior to his passing in December, respected horseman Mark Webster’s final wishes were for the Huntsville gelding to be named in honour of his father, Rupert, and for his long-time friend Lance Holberton to train him.

The South Australian juvenile has had two starts for two wins and will travel across the border to take on the Victorians in the TAB Sapling Stakes this Saturday at Tabcorp Park Melton.

Owner Laura Webster caught up with Nikkita Ross to discuss their journey with the horse and why he means so much to the family.
