Young reinsman Ryan Sanderson is recuperating at The Alfred Hospital after a fall at Charlton trots yesterday.
Sanderson, who was dislodged from the sulky shortly after the start of Race 7, is suffering internal bleeding but was cleared of any broken bones.
An air ambulance was dispatched to Charlton to transport the 17-year-old to Melbourne as stewards made the decision to abandon the final two races.
Fellow drivers David Murphy and Rodney Lakey, who were also involved in the incident, were cleared of injury.
Sanderson’s father, Shane, was able to visit his son today and wished to thank several people for their thoughts and wishes.
“A big thanks to Kylie Harrison and the stewards,” he said.
“Also, to Joe Thompson and the staff at Charlton for all of their support and for what they did for Ryan.
“We are very humbled by the support the family has received from so many within the industry. A special thank you to Shannon O’Sullivan, who went with Ryan in the air ambulance, and Colleen Aiken for her support.”
Another driver, Aussie Mifsud, meanwhile, was also tipped out of the cart in Race 6 yesterday and is recuperating in Bendigo Hospital.
Mifsud broke multiple ribs in the fall.
