While some sit on New Year’s Eve and hope to achieve grander things in the 12 months that follow, prominent Queensland owner Kevin Seymour had a key goal firmly on his to-do list.
And that was to achieve successive Group 1 Sportsbet A. G. Hunter Cup triumphs with champion pacer Leap To Fame.
“We set ourselves little targets that we try and achieve every year with this horse,” Seymour said. “Our main target this year was to win back-to-back Hunter Cups.”
Seymour has enjoyed so many dizzying highs with the winner of over $3million, who this Saturday night is out to become the first pacer since wonder mare Blossom Lady in 1994 and 1995 to win Victoria’s biggest pacing feature in successive years.
“Winning two Hunter Cups is a tremendous feat in harness racing, only to be done by the very best horses to race in Australia,” Seymour said.
“If we can do that, it would be great for his future stud career.”
Leap To Fame held favouritsm but drifted to $2 after drawing inside the second row (eight) on Tuesday morning.
“I think that the barrier draw is not kind to us. I think it is going to make the job much harder,” Seymour said.
“Only time will tell if he has the ability to overcome the draw, but horses like Tact Mcleod (two) and Republican Party (one) drawing as well as they have is going to make the job all the more difficult.”
