Another busy few months of travel starts this week for the powerhouse Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin stable.

While stable stars Always Hot and Bay of Biscay have little breaks, some of the “babies” will be unleashed on the Bathurst Gold series.

Stewart flagged the unraced Ripples, a Kiwi-bred daughter of Bettors Delight, and Sweet Lou filly Willows Girl as two to watch for the Bathurst Gold Tiara for 2YO fillies heats on Wednesday night.

Willows Girl has gate three in race one with Cam Hart to drive.

Ripples, owned in NSW by Mick Harvey, easily won a Melton trial last week. Willows Girl won a trial in slow time on the same day (March 11).

Ripples has drawn barrier six in race seven on Wednesday night with Luke McCarthy aboard.

Ashleigh Delosa will drive the other Stewart/Tonkin filly, Open The Gates, from barrier one in race four.

In the Gold Crown for two-year-old colts and geldings, Stewart said Ride High colt Mount Barker Boy, also a Melton trial winner last week, would add interest.

“We’ll also take Samkerr up for the three-year-old fillies’ series,” Stewart said.

Looking further ahead, Stewart said Always Hot, Bay Of Biscay and Very Pretty would headline a strong raid on the Albion Park winter riches.

Always Hot stretched his unbeaten record to eight wins when he toyed with his rivals in last Saturday week’s NSW Derby at Menangle.

While Bay Of Biscay won the Group 1 Chariots Of Fire at Menangle a week earlier and connections opted not to accept a Miracle Mile invite.

“They’re both having a bit of a break with a view to Queensland,” she said.

“Always Hot will go up for the Rising Sun, (Queensland) Derby and then we’ll look towards the TAB Eureka.

“Everybody wants him for the Eureka, but we’re not in a rush to lock in a slot just yet.

“He’s just different to all the three-year-olds, he’s so big and strong.

“Bay Of Biscay will also go to Queensland for the Rising Sun and, as you know, he’s already got his slot in the Eureka that’s where he’s headed.”

Excitingly, Stewart said Very Pretty was close to a racetrack return.

“She’s only three weeks off a trial,” she said. “We’re really happy with her.”

Very Pretty, who boasts nine wins and a second from 10 starts, hasn’t raced since winning at Melton on August 17, last year.

Despite the timing, Stewart said it was “highly unlikely” Very Pretty would target the Group 1 Ladyship Mile at Menangle on May 10.

“I don’t think so,” she said. “We’ve been patient and Queensland will be the big target with her.

“We think a lot of her, so we wouldn’t be against her going to the Eureka, too, if she comes back as well as we expect.”

Stewart and Tonkin are on target to have at least three, maybe four runners in this year’s $2.1mil TAB Eureka at Menangle on September 6.

They won the inaugural Eureka in 2023 with Encipher and had Bay Of Biscay finish a luckless second to Don Hugo last year.
