Sunday is fun day as Ararat gets behind Pacing for Pink

Ararat’s May meeting will turn pink for the second year in a row as the club gets behind harness racing’s support of the McGrath Foundation.

The club raised over $14,000 at its special Pacing for Pink race day last year and club organisers are hopeful of bettering that total this Sunday afternoon.

Race names have been sponsored by local businesses and there will be raffles and a major silent auction as part of the day’s activities.

The Ararat event follows the major meeting held in Shepparton, which has become the pinnacle of the month-long Pacing for Pink campaign.

As part of the initiative, drivers wear sponsored pink pants throughout May with the fight against breast cancer at the forefront of their minds.

The popular pony trots will add to the fun on-track this Sunday, with strong nominations from trainers ensuring a nine-race card for the afternoon.

Brendan Baker will act as MC, with TrotsVision.com.au to cover the meeting from about 12noon onwards.

Ararat Harness Racing Club volunteer Sharon Ralph is a driving force behind the Pacing for Pink day and spoke with Toby McKinnon on SEN Track on Wednesday.

“Shepparton has probably got 50,000 people, Ararat we have 9000 people in our town and I can walk up the street, or (with) social media as I say, and people knock you down wanting to help,” Ralph, who is the wife of club president Phil, said.

“People want to be involved and it’s great. It makes my job real easy!”
