Untapped young gun Catch A Wave has drawn gate five for this Saturday night’s APG Vic Gold Bullion 3YO Colts and Geldings Final at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The Andy Gath-trained star will start a warm favourite in the $150,000 Group 1, which is one of six elite level features on the metropolitan card.

He will run from gate four if emergency Always Locksley comes out and will be shooting for his ninth win from 10 career starts.

The Breeders Crown two-year-old champ from last year was a dominant winner of his Gold Bullion heat at Bendigo, with the other qualifier taken out by Lochinvar Jag for trainer Rodney Lakey.

Lochinvar Jag has barrier nine and will be driven by Nathan Jack.

The TAB opened Catch A Wave $1.25 on Tuesday and Emma Stewart-trained Khafaji the second elect at $4.

In the three-year-old fillies’ contest, Emma Stewart has five of the seven runners but not the favourite in the race.

Russell Jack-trained Just Hope was installed as a $1.35 chance by the TAB after coming up with barrier one for the $150,000 showdown.

Lakey-trained Roryville opened as a $2.25 top elect in the APG Vic Gold Bullion 2YO Colts and Geldings Final, but Vince Dicocco’s Mister Hunter was quickly backed from $2.90 into favouritism.

In the two-year-old fillies’ division, Stewart’s narrow debut winner Major Delight is currently $1.15 after coming up with barrier two.

Two other Group 1 events are on Saturday night’s Melton card, with the two-year-old squaregaiters to battle out divisions of the Aldebaran Park Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic.

Peter Manning-trained Valerie Lane was loaded as a $1.75 chance in the fillies’ section after landing gate one, while Catch A Wave’s stablemate Basilica is the one to beat according to the market in the boys’ feature.
