It was a Sanderson family domination of Sunday’s 2025 Community Bank Charlton Pacing Cup.

Ryan Sanderson produced an almighty salute as Catalpa Rescue charged past his sister Abby and stablemate Dangerous in the home straight to win the $25,000 listed classic.

Catalpa Rescue led early and then handed up the front to Dangerous at the bell before powering home to win by just over 5m on the line.

Dangerous boxed on to run second, with Jilliby Nitro third in a mile rate of 1.57.0.

“It was great to win our former hometown cup,” Shane said.

“We loved coming back to Charlton to catch up with friends. There’s a lot of good people in Charlton and we have fond memories.

“Always thought there’s not much between the two horses and it’s great to see Catalpa finally stepping up and realising his potential.”

Both horses are trained by Shane Sanderson - a former Charlton resident – and are owned by the group of Paul and Danny Lowry, John Wilson, Leon Hogan, Robert Hodge and Max Dillon.

Earlier in the afternoon, Wish Upona Dream secured victory in a dramatic North West Ag Services Charlton Trotters Cup.

Favourite and 30m back marker Parisian Artiste put the nose in front down the back straight before early leader Mercenary kicked back and broke clear rounding the corner before throwing away his chances when he swung into a pace.

With Parisian Artiste tiring, it was Wish Upona Dream that darted home along the sprint lane to grab the front in the shadows of the post.

It was her first win since taking out the Stawell Trotters Cup in December last year.

“I was absolutely over the moon – it was totally, totally unexpected,” trainer Rebecca Morrissey said.

“Here I am screaming at her and people would have thought I was in with a winning chance, but I was screaming at her to run third!

“I could not believe it – I was asking people after the race if she’d actually won.”

Parisian Artiste was third past the post but was promoted to second, with Little Yankee third after Mercenary was disqualified.
