Team Zav celebrating as Mach Dan does it again at Newcastle

Owners Danny and Jo Zavitsanos were overjoyed when their star pacer Mach Dan secured a second-straight triumph in the Newcastle Mile on Friday night.

The husband and wife couple, who this week confirmed they had secured superstar pacer Captain Ravishing as their “Team Zav” slot runner in September’s $2.1million TAB Eureka, were on track to witness the six-year-old’s death seat victory in the $100,000 feature.

Regular driver Mark Pitt rolled straight to the breeze from his outside barrier, and Mach Dan was able to sprint past leader Pinny Tiger in the home straight while holding off the challengers to score.

He had a neck to spare over Tasty Delight, with Petes Said So third.

“I can’t believe it,” Danny said.

“After facing the breeze and winning – that’s just mindboggling.”

The victory secures the Emma Stewart-trained Mach Dan a start in the $1million Miracle Mile at Menangle on March 4, a race he contested last year and finished sixth behind King of Swing.

The son of Mach Three has now won 22 of 58 starts for more than $780,000 in prizemoney.
