In the spirit of celebrating our great sport and remembering just what our incredible athletes are capable of on, and off the track, let’s take a look back at the decade that was.
Blake Redden has detailed what he considers to be the 10 best races between 2010 and today.
Stay tuned for the countdown as we deliver one incredible race replay each and every day in the search for the most exciting contest in the last 10 years.
7. 2010 Inter Dominion – Blacks A Fake
When compiling this list, it’s fair to say lots of factors go in to determining who deserves a berth and who might be unlucky when missing out.
It’s true to say that Blacks A Fake did most of his damage prior to 2010, but this is a nod to arguably the best horse of the past three decades.
At this stage we probably didn’t know just how the Menangle track was best driven given the 1400-metre monster had only been open for 18 months prior to this day.
But with a horse as tough as Blacks A Fake, Natalie Rasmussen was able to drive him three-wide from a long way out.
The non-believers may have been nervous when Monkey King emerged at the top of the lane but that trademark fight kicked in and the king made it his fourth Inter Dominion in a feat that’s unlikely to be matched in our lifetimes.
