Another in a long line of Andy Gath-trained and Norm Jenkin-owned New Zealand imports has landed in Australia and Craig Rail thinks Dadndave is a good chance of making a winning start to life in Australia.

The horse, who has more than $100,000 in the bank from eight victories in New Zealand, caught the eye of Rail in his trial at Tabcorp Park Melton early this week.

He is one of five new additions to the Blackbook, with his Aussie debut set for Yarra Valley on Monday.

SHEPPARTON 29/04/21

Trial 1: - STAR OF TIMPANY prepared for her first up performance at Kilmore on Thursday night with an effortless victory. She settled three back on the markers, moved into the breeze with 500m remaining and won with plenty in reserve. She ran fourth behind the former American filly Farady Hanover when resuming on Thursday. TREASURE RAINBOW led out, took a trail on the first turn and moved around to take the lead again with a mile remaining. She battled on well for second with MISS LEMON being third after ending up being behind the leader. CHEEZ (Betterthancheddar – Life Savings 1.57.9, $33,115) was six back on the markers, came out three horses wide at the quarter pole and finished ahead of JUSCALLMECHIEF, which settled in fifth, pulled hard and was the first to make a move in the back straight on the final occasion before gaining a one out and one back trail.  He didn’t have much room in the straight and went to the line with something in hand. ASSASSINS GOLD (Western Terror – Pyrites 1.57.9, $59,008) settled four back on the markers and finished sixth with BUS STOP (A Rocknroll Dance – Cunning Kate 1.58.8, $51,735) being in last position for the majority of the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.4            Final Half: - 58.0              Margins: - 8m, 6m

Trial 2: - SPRING IN HIS STEP began brilliantly to lead, rolled along at a genuine tempo and was approximately 20m in front at the bell. He continued to set a solid speed and ran his rivals ragged, winning by a large margin. He is assessed as a 50 on the National Ratings scale so he can be very well placed in his future performances. MY TIME TO SHINE (Sunshine Beach – My Lively Lass 1.58.5, $27,708) settled six back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail and came out three horses wide on the home turn. He finished off well in comparison with the remainder of the field and snared second place. MILLION DOLLAR ART was fifth on the markers before moving into the death seat with 400m remaining. He was able to grind away for third position with SMOOTH ROLLING being fourth after being without cover early before switching in behind the leader. SMOOTH ROLLING is resuming at Gunbower on Sunday where he is awkwardly drawn against a reasonable field. ARE YOU WITH ME was behind the leader early then three back on the markers and raced keenly during the middle stages of the event. He came away from the inside at the 700m but was quickly under pressure and ended up finishing in fifth position. SHELBY GRACE settled down in last position and was able to work past ASHINCHARGE (4 back markers) in the final circuit.

Mile Rate: - 2.0.0            Final Half: - 58.2              Margins: - 40m, 1m

BLACKBOOKER: - Spring In His Step

Trial 3: - THREE BROS was able to work to the lead shortly after the start and set up a slow tempo. He went to the line untouched to win the trial comfortably. He returns from a break at Bendigo tonight and his task has been made easier with the withdrawal of Monarch Stride. ALDEBARAN PHOEBE prepared for her effort at Kilmore on Thursday night with a nice second. She settled three back on the markers, came to the outside of the home turn and finished off solidly in the straight. She unfortunately galloped in the early stages at Kilmore and lost her chance. DAZY SUNDAZE led out then took a trail and finished in third position before running seventh at her comeback performance at Ballarat on Wednesday night. ARCHAIC (Andover Hall – Closetomyheart 2.4.2, $18,040) was slow out and settled a clear last early. He couldn’t go with the pack and ended up being the last one to finish.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.6            Final Half: - 60.9              Margins: - 2m, 1m

Trial 4: - HIDALGO (American Ideal – Our Options 1.59.5, $6,455) began well and trailed the leader before using the sprint lane. He showed good acceleration in the home straight and drew away at the finish. PATSY VALENTINE (American Ideal – Brighty Valentine 1.54.8, $87,170) began quickly to lead and raced greenly at several stages of the event. She enjoyed a nice run mid-race but couldn’t withstand the challenge of HIDALGO in the straight. The pair are set to clash at Yarra Valley on Monday afternoon and both horses should perform well. WILL HE PIKE (Heston Blue Chip – Miss Elvira 1.59.5, $23,938) started off being three back on the markers and lost ground mid-race to end up being in fifth. He moved up without cover with 700m remaining and battled on well in the run to the finish. TENNESSEA WALTZ (Somebeachsomewhere – Yankee Showgirl 1.56.5, $32,806) settled six back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 700m and worked into fourth position. She is scheduled to compete against the first and second place getters at Yarra Valley on Monday. RACING DREAM (Racing Hill – Shadow Flag 1.55.3, $38,180) was without cover early, dropped back to be fourth on the markers and finished fifth with QUITE CONTRARY (Art Major – Tombstone Eden 1.55.4, $74,222) (3 back markers) being the last one across the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.7            Final Half: - 59.4              Margins: - 2m, 8m

Trial 5: - MY USED TO BE trailed the leader DARK CLOUD, came to the outside with 600m remaining and quickly worked to the front. He got away in the home straight and scored with plenty in reserve. It was an impressive display and he has the ability to win a race in the near future. CRACKER JET began quickly and galloped 50m after the start, losing approximately 40m. He tacked onto the group with 1100m remaining and moved away from the inside to pursue MY USED TO BE at the quarter pole. He worked up to second but couldn’t go with MY USED TO BE over the concluding stages. IMPERIAL COUNTESS settled three back on the markers and finished third with the early leader DARK CLOUD dropping out to finish last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.1            Final Half: - 60.3              Margins: - 10m, 12m

Trial 6: - NOTORIOUS JOE settled three back on the inside, moved into the death seat at the 500m and quickly put the issue beyond doubt. He raced clear over the concluding stages and went to the line under a throttle hold to win easily. Unfortunately, he came out at Cobram four days later, wanted to boot driver Josh Aiken out of the cart, caused a false start and did plenty wrong. His cantankerous behaviour may have taken the sting out of his performance as he dropped out and finished eighth. If he repeats his trial performance at Yarra Valley on Monday, he will prove very hard to beat. OUT OF CHARACTER settled four back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 400m mark and rolled into a distant second. WONGA LAKE trailed the leader and dropped back to last on the home turn before working home reasonably well. The early front runner DEALMAKER dropped out to be last of the four runners across the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.2            Final Half: - 58.8              Margins: - 12m, 8m

Trial 7: - SANTA CASA BEACH began quickly to lead and rolled along at an even tempo. He was able to dash home in a handy last 800m of 57.0 seconds to get the prize. LETSROCKLETSROLL settled last of the four runners and came to the outside on the home turn. He finished off fast and without being pushed so it was a very good hit out for his first up performance at Bendigo this evening. SONNY WEAVER trailed the leader and never peeled to the outside at any stage. He went to the line jogging in third spot and that run should have prepared him nicely for his effort at Melton tomorrow night where he takes on a strong field. DIVINE DIVA settled three back on the markers and was last of the four to cross the line. She followed with a fifth at Cobram on Monday where she worked into the death seat mid-race and peaked late.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.2            Final Half: - 57.0              Margins: - 4m, 1m

CRANBOURNE 02/05/21

Trial 1: - SOVEREIGN MINX was able to lead comfortably and set up a slow tempo mid-race. She was unchallenged from the start to the finish and won by a comfortable margin. She is racing against a strong field at Yarra Valley on Monday. SOVEREIGN TIGER has always shown a bit of potential but has had gait issues. He settled down in last position, moved away from the inside on the home turn and ran home fairly well out wide on the track for second. He can improve on his race form when he starts putting it altogether. BACKINTHESKY (Skyvalley – Backina Lifetime 1.59.9, $70,053) was the last horse to complete the course after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.5            Final Half: - 60.7              Margins: - 8m, 15m

Trial 2: - CAPTAIN BELLASARIO was without cover early before sliding to the lead shortly after the start. He dashed home in a very quick final 800m of 56.9 seconds and won by a large margin without being fully extended. MISO MISO led out then took a trail and finished in second position. HEART OF SAHARA (Betting Line – Sahara Miss 1.54.4, $66,463) is a juvenile pacer and was taking on older horses so under the circumstances, it was a handy performance. She settled in fourth position and moved up without cover at the 500m mark. PLAIN ED (Heston Blue Chip – Shalackin 1.56.8, $27,125) settled last of the five runners then moved into the one out and one back trail at the 500m. He finished ahead of MIR, which was three back on the markers throughout.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.8          Final Half: - 56.9              Margins: - 25m, 2m

BLACKBOOKER: - Captain Bellasario

Trial 3: - SAHARA STORM began quickly to lead and always appeared to be in control. He coasted down to the line to win nicely over FREEDOM WRITER, which was without cover early before angling in behind the leader with 1800m remaining. CROMPTON BAY settled last of the four runners and finished third with OZZIE SUNSHINE being the last one home after moving into the death seat from three back on the markers at the 500m.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.7            Final Half: - 58.8              Margins: - 3.5m, 3.5m

KYABRAM 02/05/21

Trial 1: - CRESCO GOLDIGGER hasn’t raced since a sixth at Shepparton in October. He was able to defeat the nicely bred juvenile pacer REIBY DELIGHT (Bettors Delight – Christisimo 1.57.2, $48,618) with SHES GOIING PLACES being in third position. The qualifier WESTERN COMMAND (Pet Rock – Pacific Made) was able to beat home BRING THE ACTION, which hasn’t started for over a year.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.6            Final Half: - 62.3              Margins: - 5m, 10m

Trial 2: - IMPERIALS REASON was stood down to trial after she galloped during her Shepparton third on April 25. She was able to dominate the trial and win by 40m. WELL I SAID was unplaced in two starts at Shepparton back in September. She finished second ahead of ARTIZZ, which has recently returned from a spell with ANTIHERO (Red Samurai – Golden Antigone) being last of the four runners to cross the line. ARTIZZ is competing at Gunbower on Sunday.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.0            Final Half: - 59.9              Margins: - 40m, 2m

Trial 3: - FULLOFMISCHIEF has won several trials in preparation for his first up performance at Gunbower on Sunday. He was able to defeat WANDANAS ADVICE, which also used the trial as a stepping stone towards Gunbower. MISSMETRO finished third and backed up at Kilmore on Thursday night, where she battled on well for fifth after being out three horses wide in the final circuit. HARD ROAD was last of the four runners to cross the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.0            Final Half: - 61.0              Margins: - 3m, 3m

Trial 4: - CRESCO THREEPEAT hasn’t raced since an unplaced performance at Shepparton in October. He completed a double for trainer Gary Pekin and defeated the qualifier SHES LUSH (Betterthancheddar – Morcheeba Bromac 2.2.9, $2,895). DANCES finished third and is backing up at Bendigo this evening where she rates as a chance if she delivers a fool proof display. MILLY PATONE was the last horse home in the final trial of the morning.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.2            Final Half: - 63.5              Margins: - 8m, 6m

She worked into a distant second with the appropriately named I’M STUCK MAN being in third after being held up for a run for the majority of the race. He was three back on the markers before moving into the one out and one back trail over the latter stages. TWO IN TENTS settled down fourth, left the markers to race without cover at the 700m mark and battled away in the straight. LOYOLA ROCKNROLLA led out then took a trail before tiring over the final stages. He is drawn on the pole position at Mildura this afternoon but is meeting a strong field.

Mile Rate: - Not Given   Final Half: - Not Given   Margins: - 20m, Head (approximately)

Trial 2: - SHADOW TERROR was stood down to trial after performing well below expectations at Mildura on April 21. He has joined trainer Reece Moore and performed extremely well in the trial. He settled four back in the running lane, moved into a trailing position (1-2) and was out three horses wide from the 400m. He finished off strongly to win the trial comfortably. He is a big winning chance in the opening event at Mildura this afternoon if he can repeat that performance. OLLIE AND BROCK began quickly and was without cover early before gaining a trail behind the leader. He moved up without cover again at the bell and finished in second position. WHERESMILZEE was three back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail from the bell and battled into third position. He is resuming from a break in the third event at Mildura this afternoon where he has drawn on the pole position over the sprint distance so he is not without a chance. ARCHIE NORMAN began fast to lead, pulled hard and was able to hold down second with PUNT being in third. He was fifth on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 500m mark and battled on fairly well in the straight. Trial 4: - COCO BEACH was three back on the inside, moved up without cover at the mile marker, wanted to hang out and was three horses wide from the 500m. FORTITUDO began quickly and held the lead into the first corner. He was strongly challenged in the final quarter of the race but kept on kicking back in the straight and went down narrowly. He is competing in the same race as COCO BEACH at Mildura this afternoon but has come up with a trailing draw. COLDPLAY ROAD is taking on Bernie Winkle in the open class event this afternoon and finished a close third in his trial after trailing the leader throughout.

JAYBEEOHDEE was four back on the markers before moving into the death seat with 900m remaining. He boxed on well for second with RYMES (Majestic Son – Genayas Girl) being third. RYMES broke stride in the score up, missed the start by 50m and tacked on at the bell so it was a very good performance. Her past two trial efforts have been extremely good but unfortunately, she has broken stride on each occasion. CLAUDYS ICEMAN (Pegasus Spur – All Finesse) rolled to the lead on the first turn and tired into fourth position. HALLABOUTME broke at the start and lost valuable ground. He showed ability but is obviously still learning. OUR KINKY BOOTS prepared for her effort at Yarra Valley on Monday with a solid performance. She picked up ground over the concluding stages to finish in third spot with ONE MUSCLE HILL (leader, behind leader) being in fourth. BLUE SPARKLER was four back on the markers for the majority of the trial and was the last one to complete the course.

He dropped back to last early, gained a one out and one back trail at the 700m mark and worked home best to grab victory on the line. DADNDAVE settled in sixth spot before moving up without cover in the last lap. He went down fighting in fast time and showed a lot of promise. He is the winner of over $100,000 in stakes in New Zealand and he would have to be a big winning chance, despite being drawn on the second line at Yarra Valley on Monday. SUPREME DOMINATOR has trialled extremely well over the past two weeks. He was three back on the markers and was held up for a run at the finish so he should have finished closer against very strong opposition. CONCEALMENT settled four back on the markers and beat home MR BOHANNON, which attempted to lead throughout with MICTON MOUSE (behind leader) being sixth across the line. MICTON MOUSE backed up with an unplaced performance behind the impressive 3yo pacer Swayzee at Kilmore on Thursday night. MOONLITE DRIVE was last of all after settling five back on the inside.
