TRIAL REPORT 20

BACCHUS MARSH 24/08/19

Trial 1: - ZAMBA DEVILLE has been lightly raced this year with just the one run in March then another in May. He has ability when racing at his best form and he is a swift beginner from the standing start. He took out the opening trial in slow time from ARU AND ME and last of the three runners was STAR IN SIGHT, which has recently returned to Victoria after a short stint in Western Australia.

Trial 2: - The speedy mare WESTERN DEBT was freshened after being unplaced in the Super Series Final and slipped home in a solid final lap to win the second trial. ITZEXCEPTIONAL has been shaping up nicely in several trials at Bacchus Marsh recently and could improve on his race form in the near future. DEADLY MARK was a distance away in third position.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.1             Final Half: - 58.3               Margins: - 3m, 50m

Trial 3: - MY CARMEN is another handy filly prepared by Adam Kelly that should go well at the beginning of the new season. She was a winner at Maryborough in January and she has been placed on several occasions. She won her trial by the large margin of 40m from JEMSTONE GLORY (Stonebridge Regal – Jemas Glory 1.58.7, $72,972), a daughter of the former fast New South Wales trained mare Jemas Glory. BRONSKI LAD (Major Bronski – All Exclusive) finished third in front of QUEEN OF DIAMONDS, which broke stride shortly after the start at her race track debut.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.7             Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - 40m, 3m

Trial 4: - Only two horses contested the fourth trial with ALLGOOD BABE, which showed promise at her first campaign of racing having been placed in two of her four starts, edging out YANNERIE. YANNERIE is a proven race winner and was runner up in a mile rate of 1.57.5 at Ballarat at his latest attempt.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.1             Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - ½ Head.

Trial 5: - ALDEBARAN STEVIE (Yield Boko – Im Sonialeelee 2.7.7, $7,150) is an unraced filly for trainer Paul Gabriel and won the final trial over YERINGBERG, which is the winner of three races. FROSTY RECEPTION, which is a new acquisition for trainer Paul Younger, came in third.

Mile Rate: - 2.16.2           Final Half: - 64.7               Margins: - 3m, 15m

KYABRAM 25/08/19

Trial 1: - MISTER PARMESAN is a recent acquisition for trainer William Cole and he took out the opening trial by a large margin. LONESTAR LASS (Lonestar Legend – My Lady Best $115,490) is interestingly bred being by the American stallion Lonestar Legend, which raced in Australia and took out the 2010 Bohemia Crystal FFA, out of the eight times winning Canadian mare My Lady Best. She finished second and well ahead of VILLANELLE (Tintin In America – Glenferrie Miss 2.1.9, $28,245) with MISS METRO finishing last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.1             Final Half: - 61.0               Margins: - 20m, 15m

Trial 2: - AJAY BREEZY ROSE was stood down to trial after an eleventh at Cobram recently and she was able to win her re-qualifying event by a comfortable margin. CRESCO THREEPEAT finished in second position with the unraced filly INPHILTRATE (Blissfull Hall – Ceratophylla 1.58.1, $78,410) in third position. NICE ONE BERT was last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.5             Final Half: - 61.6               Margins: - 6m, 6m

MILDURA 25/08/19

Trial 1: - MACHNIFICENTSTELLA showed good gate speed and was able to get across to the markers and lead shortly after the start. ACE MONTANA took the trail in second with RAIN BEACH GIRL (Sunshine Beach – Surstromming 1.58.8, $149,119) in third. SHE SAID YES settled fourth and the unraced qualifier PEREGRINEINFLIGHT (Grinfromeartoear – Peregrine 2.2.9, $3,350) began slowly and settled 25m behind the main group. ACE MONTANA left the markers to death seat at the half mile marker and staged a good battle with his stable mate MACHNIFICENTSTELLA. He was able to edge clear in the last part of the event. RAINBEACHGIRL held on until peaking in the final 150m and finished third in front of SHE SAID YES, which tried to follow behind ACE MONTANA in the final circuit. PEREGRINEINFLIGHT never tacked onto the main group.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.0             Final Half: - 59.6               Margins: - 1.5m, 10m

Trial 2: - THEPRIDEOFOPAL hasn’t raced since July 2017 and was able to win the trial comfortably after he settled three back on the markers and came off the back of PUOPOLO turning for home. PUOPOLO finished second after trailing the leader KEAYANG SANDY and hitting the lead on the home turn. KEAYANG SANDY dropped back to third and ARTOF MARTY, which was slow to begin, was always last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.1             Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - 6m,7m

Trial 3: - MAJOR MUCHA was able to hold the lead around the first corner with SASSY INDIANA easing into trail. MAJOR MAGUIRE angled onto the markers to settle three back with TELLUS WE DREAM being last of the four runners. TELLUS WE DREAM moved into the death seat at the 1200m mark. MAJOR MUCHA opened up a good lead on the home turn but SASSY INDIANA and MAJOR MAGUIRE both closed in late. MAJOR MUCHA held on to win narrowly from SASSY INDIANA with MAJOR MAGUIRE being only a head away in third position. TELLUS WE DREAM began yielding ground with 300m remaining.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.6             Final Half: - 60.2               Margins: - Head, Head

Trial 4: - BEST OF BEAUTY showed his natural gate speed to lead comfortably from THERMAL REACTOR, YARRARA BEN and FLOJOS GOLD, which is now back with trainer Ian Watson, settled last of the four runners. FLOJOS GOLD moved away from the markers with 1000m remaining and YARRARA BEN angled into the one out and one back trail. BEST OF BEAUTY shook off the challenge of FLOJOS GOLD on the home turn and established a winning break. FLOJOS GOLD did battle back determinedly late to hold down second just in front of YARRARA BEN and THERMAL REACTOR wasn’t far away in fourth after being blocked for a run over the concluding stages.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.7             Final Half: - Not Given  Margins: - 1m, Head

BENDIGO 25/08/19

Trial 1: - SPIDERS DEVIL led throughout and was untroubled in scoring. IMA ZIABEE was just lobbing along out the back of the three runners and found the line nicely when asked for an effort in the final 150m. FETCH IT galloped away for a few strides before getting into a trot but he didn’t lose any ground. He trailed the leader and came to the outside before the home turn. He couldn’t go with SPIDERS DEVIL so he switched back to the markers going around the final corner. He trotted a little roughly in the straight and ended up finishing last of the three runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.5             Final Half: - 59.7               Margins: - 7m, 6m

Trial 2: - PRINCESS VENOM began quickly and angled in behind the leader EVERYBODYLOVESME (Imperial Count – Maori Azolla 2.13.0, $6,600) on the first turn. She raced on a strong rein throughout and was able to just get the better of EVERYBODYLOVESME in the latter stages. JEDSTAR (Imperial Count – Tangalan Jack 2.5.6, $43,090) raced three back on the markers throughout and beat home DELS DESTINY (Pegasus Spur – Sueno), which galloped at the 1200m mark and after tacking on, galloped again at the home turn.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.9             Final Half: - 60.1               Margins: - Head, 8m

Trial 3: - HECS ELECT pushed forward at the start and took the lead away from NIL DESPERANDUM after approximately 300m. That pair dominated the trial and dashed well clear of the remainder of the pack from the quarter pole. NIL DESPERANDUM came to the outside in the straight and tried hard but HECS ELECT was able to safely hold him at bay. GLITZNGLAM was beaten by a long way but after being held up for a run at a vital stage from four back on the markers, she did accelerate quickly away from the remaining competitors in the straight. LIKEAVEEEIGHT was the only horse away from the markers throughout the trial and he wanted to race fiercely. He ran a distant fourth in front of ART FINEST, which was five back on the markers before working into the one out and one back trail. KENANDI DENESE (Falcon Seelster – Golden Illusion) dropped back to sixth after racing three back on the markers throughout. OVERREACTION galloped momentarily just prior to the start and wanted to hang in for the majority of the journey. He was always last of the seven runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.0.5             Final Half: - 57.0               Margins: - 2m, 45m

Trial 4: - TRADE WHISPERS showed good gate speed to lead comfortably and was always in control of the trial. He went to the line under a strong grip and seemed to have plenty in reserve. SHAQ settled four back on the markers and was the first to break the single file formation with 600m remaining. He tried valiantly but couldn’t peg back the winner. RINGER RUSS (Village Jasper – Blitzem Lass 2.0.9, $18,400) put in an eye-catching trial performance. He settled three back on the markers and ran up behind the eventual winner with some momentum on the line. WHERES WOOD WOOD (Mach Three – Vertigal 1.55.8, $317,380) settled at the rear of the field and worked into the one out and one back trail behind SHAQ. She finished fourth in front of WHATA ROLLER (Roll With Joe – Whata Avenue 1.53.3, $92,536), which yielded ground in the straight after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.9             Final Half: - 58.6               Margins: - 1m, 3m (approximately)

BLACKBOOKER: - TRADE WHISPERS

Trial 5: - BONUS PLAY appeared to be very sharp in his trial victory. He dropped back to be last of the four runners and was spotting the leader POPPYS PRINCESS approximately 25m start in the back straight on the final occasion. He boomed home to win by 20m with the final half (leader to winner) being 56.5 seconds! POPPYS PRINCESS showed brilliant early pace to lead by a good margin. She finished second and was well ahead of JOEYS HANGOVER, which trailed her throughout. The former New South Wales trained pacer BEADMAN settled three back on the markers and began to yield ground with 600m remaining.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.7             Final Half: - 56.5               Margins: - 20m, 10m

MARYBOROUGH 25/08/19

Trial 1: - VALENTINA BRAVE led and ran along at a reasonable tempo. She held off a determined challenge from BETTOR BE THE BOMB, which was content to park without cover throughout and probably would have won the trial had he not contacted the sulky wheel of the winner with 100m remaining. GHOSTLY SILENCE trailed the leader and finished a distant third but he is a National Ratings horse of 52 and was taking on much tougher opposition. SUN OF SONOKO galloped away and lost valuable ground. He did an enormous job to get as close as he did mid-race and almost beat GHOSTLY SILENCE to the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.4             Final Half: - 57.9               Margins: - Neck, 40m

Trial 2: - SHARK LUCK trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to take out the second trial. He wasn’t pushed at any stage and could have scored by further if placed under pressure. ARLINTON OVER enjoyed a good run in the lead but couldn’t repel the challenge of SHARK LUCK in the latter stages. ROYAL APOLLO (Shadow Play – Tessanover) settled three back on the inside and moved into the death seat at the 700m. He put some pressure on the leader down the back straight and battled on well for a close up third. MAJOR BANKS was last of the four runners throughout but he picked up some ground out wide late and wasn’t beaten by far at the end.

Mile Rate: - 2.7.6             Final Half: - 58.6               Margins: - Neck, Neck

Trial 3: - A NIP WILL DO trailed the leader MASAKE throughout and used the sprint lane to snare victory on the line. It was an inch perfect drive by Brett Shipway as he waited until very late in the home straight to use the inside run. SELF EXCLUSION was in third position after being slowly away and missing the start by 25m. DEALERS KNOCK galloped at the start and ended up being with SELF EXCLUSION. He stayed one away from the inside and raced fiercely so he did a bit wrong in the run. He ended up finishing last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.7.09           Final Half: - 62.4               Margins: - Head, 30m

Trial 4: - ALEPPO MURPHY started from the back mark of 50m and took his time to work onto the back of ME PAT MALONE (30m). LITTLE YANKEE (Yankee Spider – Admirals Image) is an unraced qualifier so he was racing well outside of his class group but being the lone horse starting off the front line, he set the speed. ALEPPO MURPHY loomed up out wide on the track and went to the lead with 50m remaining. He wanted to hang in over the final stages but won comfortably. LITTLE YANKEE fought on gamely for second and ME PAT MALONE wasn’t far away in third, seemingly with plenty in reserve.

Mile Rate: - 2.13.6           Final Half: - 62.7               Margins: - 3m, 4m (approximately)

TABCORP PARK MELTON 26/08/19

Trial 1: MAGIC OWENS was untroubled in leading and ran along at a reasonable tempo. He appeared to be strong at the finish and won nicely. FLING ABOUT tried hard after trailing the leader throughout and finished second. LEFT RIGHT ANDCENTRE has the ability but his manners frequently let him down. He galloped in the score up and lost 30m so his effort to recover and finish third was tremendous. MAGICLASS (Majestic Son – Cookeyslass 2.4.1, $43,260) settled three back on the markers and began to yield ground with 600m remaining.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.2             Final Half: - 58.97             Margins: - 5.5m, 6m

Trial 2: - ITS BEAUJOLAIS dropped out to be last of the four runners early then progressed forward in the breeze from the half mile marker. He sustained the run to join the leader ELITA turning for home and forged away to win easily. ELITA comfortably held down second after setting the speed and PIPPO NIEN (Village Jasper – Ella Jane) came from three back on the markers to just claim FLYIN FIRST CLASS (Caribbean Blaster – Flyin Indi Air 1.58.1, $100,119) (trailed leader) for third and fourth.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.2           Final Half: - 56.55             Margins: - 14.5m, 5m

Trial 3: - ILLAWONG CLASS (Modern Art – Classy Sheila 2.1.7, $19,343) led out and tried to quicken momentarily when IMAGINE IT’S ME (Mach Three – Bella Boudicca 2.4.1, $6,875) stormed up from last with 700m remaining but he took cover in what ended up being a blistering third section of 26.6 seconds. He then used the sprint lane and drove through to get the prize. IMAGINE IT’S ME tired in the final 100m but was entitled to get weary after setting up the hectic pace in the back straight and ran a big trial for second. SHESTRYINGTACTICS ran home from last of the five to finish a distant third from MY COUSIN LENNY, which settled three back on the markers. REALLY CAMPBELL (Artesian – Really Rona) settled four back on the inside and started to yield ground when the pace increased dramatically in the back straight.

Mile Rate: - 1.56.8           Final Half: - 55.98             Margins: - 4m, 20.5m

BLACKBOOKER: - ILLAWONG CLASS

Trial 4: - MY SWEETCHILLIPHILLY led comfortably as the field settled in a single file order shortly after the start. JILLIBY GIZMO trailed the well credentialled filly and got very close by using the sprint lane but MY SWEETCHILLIPHILLY did seem to have something in reserve. MACHITELLI settled last of the four runners and was able to get over the top of TWO TELL in the latter stages.

Mile Rate: - 1.57.0           Final Half: - 56.61             Margins: - 1/2head, 12.5m

Trial 5: - ARDEN VOYAGER hasn’t raced since a third in the South Australian Derby but he looked very sharp in his trial victory. Admittedly, he did enjoy the perfect trip behind the leader JILLIBY SHANIA but it was the ease in which he coasted on by in the straight that was impressive. JILLIBY SHANIA still trialled nicely considering the final quarter of 26.99 seconds! JUST SAY GO didn’t utilize her brilliant early pace and eased on to the markers to be three back. She finished third in front of DON PIERRE, which was last throughout.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.3           Final Half: - 55.99             Margins: - 2.5m, 3.5m

BLACKBOOKER: - ARDEN VOYAGER

KILMORE 27/08/19

Trial 1: - ENROLLED commenced safely from the handicap of 40m and quickly gathered momentum. He worked around to lead comfortably in the back straight on the first occasion and was allowed to coast along at his leisure from that point. TIP TOP GRANDPA (Aldebaran Yankee – Tip Top Winner) led out then took cover and didn’t do a bad job to finish second within a length of the winner considering he is yet to commence his career and ENROLLED has bankrolled in excess of $114,000. ERO CARPE DIEM galloped momentarily at the start and angled in behind TIP TOP GRANDPA. He lost a little bit of ground in the straight and finished last of the three runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.11.3           Final Half: - 61.9               Margins: - 3m, 10m

Trial 2: - HURRICANE HALL took advantage of HEZA BRAXTON galloping away and pounced on the lead. He set up a slow tempo and finished off in quick final sectionals to win with plenty left in reserve. TIME TRAVELLER finished second after trailing the leader and EMERGING TALENT remained in third throughout the entire event. HEZA BRAXTON did tack onto the group after galloping early but broke stride again at the 700m mark. The overall time was very slow but he did a good job to make up ground again in the latter stages. TAUTO JANE hasn’t started since January and she yielded ground from four back from the markers to finish last of the five runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.0             Final Half: - 57.4               Margins: - 6m, 2m

Trial 3: - LONGNWINDINGROAD pushed forward shortly after the start and took the lead away from TRYNA PORTRAY, which motored across to find the lead in the early stages. He always travelled well and was untouched going down to the line to score impressively. TRYNA PORTRAY held down second with LUNAR DELIGHT finishing third from three back on the markers. SHADY JESS (Shadyshark Hanover – Jessica Jasper 1.57.3, $126,572) was fourth throughout and last of the five was IN A SPIN (Blissfull Hall – Foreverdancing) after racing roughly at various stages of the event.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.2             Final Half: - 58.3               Margins: - 8m, 3m

BLACKBOOKER: - LONGNWINDINGROAD

Trial 4: - THE SPARROW HAWK settled five back on the markers behind FINAL OVER and gained the one out and one back trail when that horse extricated from the markers with 600m remaining. He came wide into the straight and got up to defeat HOT TO ROCK, which trailed the leader and came to the outside on turning for home. Both the winner and the runner up appeared to have something in reserve at the finish. BLISSFULL MIND did a very good job for a National Ratings 59 assessed pacer. He was able to scoot along the sprint lane from three back on the markers and just missed out on the line. MY MACH SCOOTER began swiftly despite being under restraint and led easily. He raced fiercely throughout however and that took a toll at the finish. FINAL OVER couldn’t sustain the run after moving into the death seat with 600m remaining.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.9             Final Half: - 60.1               Margins: - 1m, 1.5m
