THIS IS BILL settled down in third, pushed forward to find the lead then galloped momentarily with a lap to go. He raced without cover in the final circuit and tired in the straight. AFTER DARN (South Park Hanover – Lizzie By Jove USA 1.54.4, $27,321) was four back on the outside throughout and finished in front of APHRODISIAC (Shadow Play – Soho Winslet), which galloped momentarily at the start, raced without cover then was checked by the galloping THIS IS BILL with a lap remaining.

JULIACA finished third and NATIONAL DRAFT was fourth after coming away from third on the markers to race on the outside of the leader with 600m remaining. COOLARAMA (5 back markers) was fifth in front of TUFFANUFF (Modern Art – Xmas In Manhattan 1.58.5, $21,600) (6 back markers) and the trotter MISSEDTHELASTRAIN galloped when in fourth position with a mile remaining.

DASH OF FLAIR (Bacardi Lindy – Dream of Flair 2.5.5, $17,484) was three back on the markers throughout and finished ahead of VINDICATING, which came to the outside from fourth with 600m remaining. Trial 1: - DANCING WITH FLO (A Rocknroll Dance – Narree Rose) settled three back on the markers and moved through to trail the leader when KATACHA MAN (Bettors Delight – Breeze On Bronski 1.56.8, $47,397) left the inside to join the leader with 500m remaining. She used the sprint lane and dashed through to win the trial. KATACHA MAN was the original leader before taking cover at the 1700m. He moved away from the markers in the back straight and hit the lead momentarily but found the winner to be too slick in the latter stages. ITZ LONGTALL SALLY (A Rocknroll Dance – Itz Nosurprisesthere 1.58.0, $216,900) gained the perfect run into the race behind KATACHA MAN after settling four back on the markers in the early stages. FEND OFF was an eye-catching second. He settled down in third and flashed to the line. Admittedly, the final sectionals were the slowest part of the race but the mile rate was strong. MASCOTT finished third after trailing the leader throughout and was a long way clear of SNEAKIN AROUND, which broke stride at the start and again at the 600m mark. CHARLIE RUNKLE settled in fourth position but couldn’t maintain the back of the horse in front and yielded ground in the final circuit.

The trial changed completely at the bell when GEE HEE ROCKS made a quick dash to run to the lead and TARA LEEANN galloped shortly afterwards, checking MIDNIGHT RATTLER, LADY MAJESTIC and WUNDURRA, which all lost about 15m. SHARGREG was also inconvenienced. GOWIDDAFLOW (Bettors Delight – La Bastille) was able to slot in behind the leader GEE HE ROCKS (Pet Rock – On Fifth 1.59.2, $12,670) and GRESHAR moved up without cover. GRESHAR quickly got the better of GEE HEE ROCKS at the 500m and shot well clear to win easily. GOWIDDAFLOW moved away from the markers and tried to pursue. He beat GEE HEE ROCKS, which tired late into third, by a good margin. SHARGREG (Art Major – Estasi) was fourth in front of LADY MAJESTIC, WUNDURRA, TARA LEEANN and MIDNIGHT RATTLER. He raced keenly and was unsuited by the slow early tempo but he did hit the line hard to finish second. ISNTSHEJUST settled four back on the markers but quickly whipped around the field to lead in the back straight on the first occasion. She was gunned down late but the two horses that beat her are very smart.
