Emerging Talent (Race 3 No.11) tonight at Shepparton is one of two new Black Book horses to follow, according to our trials analyst Craig Rail.

Seasong is the other horse that has been entered on to the Black Book list (check out bottom of this report for full list).

SHEPPARTON 12/09/19

Trial 1: - GORDON GIRL hasn’t started since May but looked pretty sharp in her trial victory. She did travel around the first bend awkwardly but she found the lead before taking cover with 1200m remaining. She gained an inside run at the 500m mark and shot through to grab the lead before racing away at the finish. FABRICATION came from five back on the inside and ran home well for second in front of LUNAR DELIGHT, which moved off the back of FABRICATION to race one out and one back for the final 700m. THE DRUMMER BOY settled second last before making a move to find the front at the 1200m. He hung out at the 500m mark and gave GORDON GIRL the room to run through on his inside. He ended up finishing fourth in front of POCKETFULLOFCASH, which settled in seventh before racing without cover from the bell. CRESCO THREEPEAT raced four back on the markers and beat home SWEDISH MISS (3 back markers). AMERICAN SWEETHART was retired after failing to score up in the desired manner.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.9             Final Half: - 59.3               Margins: - 5m, 1/2m

Trial 2: - The field of nine ended up being in single file with WILLEM firing through to lead from the second row. The order was WILLEM in front from BENATAR, MAJADORE, EMERGING TALENT, OUR SUMMER BAY, TIWANAKU, ROCKON ANGEL, TIME TRAVELLER and PASSION PLAY. TIWANAKU was the first to break formation and raced without cover from the 700m mark with ROCKON ANGEL lobbing the one out and one back trail. TIME TRAVELLER followed into the one wide line and PASSION PLAY ended up being four back on the outside before making a spirited move out wide on the track from the 300m. WILLEM remained nicely clear however and was able to win the trial after running along at a genuine tempo throughout. TIWANAKU did well to hold down second and MAJADORE made late ground along the sprint lane for third. BENETAR was a close up fourth in front of PASSION PLAY, which was closing off out wider on the track. EMERGING TALENT was eye-catching. A NR50 taking on much tougher opposition and she went to the line bolting with no clear run. She is worth following on that performance. ROCKON ANGEL, OUR SUMMER BAY and TIME TRAVELLER were the last three to greet the judge.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.7           Final Half: - 58.4               Margins: - 5m, Head

BLACKBOOKER: - Emerging Talent

Trial 3: - The standing start trial for the trotters was won by SCORCHING ALONG, which began very quickly to lead and was untroubled in slow time. ANTIOPE trailed the leader throughout and tried hard in the straight, finishing four metres from the winner. ANTIGONUS (Yankee Spider – Golden Antigone), the younger brother to ANTIOPE was last of the three runners throughout but did everything right.

Mile Rate: - 2.13.3           Final Half: - 62.4               Margins: - 4m, 50m (approximately)

Trial 4: - SAN CARLO started from the second line and settled midfield before circling into the lead with a mile remaining. He kept rolling along and speared away in the final 100m to win very impressively and with something in reserve. SHAKAHARI settled one out and two back at the bell and chased hard out three horses wide from the 700m. She got up within two lengths of SAN CARLO on the home turn and ran a brave second. WINKANDITSOVER was one out and one back from the bell after being momentarily without cover and he ran into a distant third. READY TO FIRE showed good gate speed to lead before taking cover behind SAN CARLO. He finished fourth in front of TALLY OPERATOR (4 back markers) and HOT TO ROCK (3 back markers). BETTOR ENFORCE left a trailing position to come out three horses wide into the breeze and raced on the outside of SAN CARLO. She tired late but beat home TUXEDO MAX, which was last throughout.

Mile Rate: - 1.56.7           Final Half: - 57.5               Margins: - 14m, 12m

BACCHUS MARSH 14/09/19

Trial 1: - ALLGOOD BABE has good gate speed and should be fitter after her first up fifth at Maryborough and now her trial victory at Bacchus Marsh where she recorded a fast 800m of 58.9 seconds, scoring by a comfortable margin. SONG OF COURAGE hasn’t raced since July and she finished second ahead of JOY MAC, which hasn’t been to the races since April. SAVE THE GAME also hasn’t raced for a while and was a Ballarat winner in May. She finished last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.05           Final Half: - 58.9               Margins: - 12m, 15m

Trial 2: - SUMO GRIN is a dual gaited gelding that hasn’t raced since January. He defeated ARU AND ME, which is a regular at the Bacchus Marsh trials for Robert Young with FROSTY RECEPTION finishing in third position. MEL DURANT was a good distance away in fourth ahead of YERINGBERG and REINSTATED (I’m Stately – Slowly Does It 2.6.0, $10,400).

Mile Rate: - 2.10.1           Final Half: - 64.3               Margins: - 4m,6m

Trial 3: - The Ian Caruana trained stable mates BRONSKI MOMENT and JEMSTONE GLORY battled out the finish with BRONSKI MOMENT prevailing by a head margin. CINQUE AMICI (Quick Approval – Stunin Art 1.59.9, $7,225) is by the former strong New South Wales trained pacer in Quick Approval (won 23 of his 58 starts) and finished third, well ahead of FRANKING CREDIT (Western Terror – Let’s Go Baby 2.0.5, $26,833).

Mile Rate: - 2.9.5             Final Half: - 61.0               Margins: - Head, 15m

Trial 4: - ZAMBA DEVILLE hasn’t raced since May but he is usually a good standing start beginner and he overcame the handicap of 30m to win the trial. ALLENS DELIGHT is getting ready to resume racing after an unplaced run in the Mooroopna Cup at his latest attempt. He finished second ahead of LEANNE LEEANN, which showed ability but didn’t have much luck at her first campaign of racing. MUDDY WOBBLES was the last one to complete the course.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.6             Final Half: - 61.5               Margins: - 4m, Head

Trial 5: - STUNNING I AM is a speedy mare, which boasts a personal best time of 1.55.7 so she appeared to be well placed in the final trial. She defeated JUST CALL ME MAC with CISKEI finishing in third position. CORRINYAH CONMAN, which was the second dual gaited horse trialling at Bacchus Marsh on the day, finished fourth ahead of DEADLY MARK.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.4             Final Half: - 59.7               Margins: - 12m, 5m

ARARAT 14/09/19

Trial 1: - GOTTAHAVEAHOBBIE is a handy pacer and is building up a good record. He was stretched in the opening trial however with the honest mare GRACIE CULLEN being only a nose away at the finish. Considering the mile rate and the final half were strong, both horses should be competitive when they next head to the track. The recent Mildura winner DONTSHOWYOURACES finished in third position ahead of KEMPSEYS DELIGHT with KEVIN RICHARD being last of the five runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.3             Final Half: - 57.4               Margins: - Nose, 6m

Trial 2: - The grand old campaigner WITZEND, which has won over $90,000 in prize money took out the second trial on the program over his stable mate AUTUMN STORM with the unraced gelding GHANASUYA (Mr Feelgood – The Princess Poet) finishing third.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.9             Final Half: - 60.5               Margins: - 1m, 40m

Trial 3: - MEADOWVALLEY DRIVE is now being prepared by Michael Gadsden and was able to defeat ABALLOFMUSCLE by a narrow margin. Michael Gadsden now also prepares MEADOW VALLEY SKY, which finished third in the trial. The next time MEADOW VALLEY SKY goes to the races, it will be for his fourth different trainer at his past six appearances. LAUXMONTS SUCCESS finished fourth with DEFENCE GOT JUMPED coming in a distant last.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.4             Final Half: - 61.8               Margins: - Head, 30m

TERANG 15/09/19

Trial 1: - GO JO JOLT was trained by Peter Manning last season and is now being prepared by Margaret Lee. He won the opening trial by a comfortable margin over GOODTIME AL (Shadyshark Hanover – Next Strike 2.3.3, $7,030) with GOODTIME MARIAH (Shadyshark Hanover – Kiss and Grin) being in third position. The trotter MAORI AMOUR came in last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.5             Final Half: - 61.9               Margins: - 15m, 3m

Trial 2: - It was a small but quality trial with the bold front running type BIG GUN JOHNNY taking the prize over GOODTIME RUSTY with JILLIBY ROYAL, which hasn’t started in over a year, finishing last of the three runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.7             Final Half: - 57.7               Margins: - 1m, 10m

Trial 3: - GUS AN MAORI, the seven times winning son of an Inter Dominion winning mare took on the unraced qualifier in FREMARKSKUZO (Skyvalley – A Poem Kept 2.6.0, $16,385) in the third trial for the trotters. He went on to win by 85m but FREMARKSKUZO stems from a handy maternal family.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.7             Final Half: - 62.0               Margins: - 85m

Trial 4: - JILLIBY GIZMO won the final trial of the night over HAIL GEORGIE, which hasn’t started since a victory at Warragul in January. PRINCE MCCARDLE has returned to trainer Matthew Craven after a successful stint in South Australia with David Harding. Interestingly, he is out of the former top pacing mare Champagne Princess (1.56.9) and he is closely related to Champagne Prince, which won a trotting race at Shepparton on his Australian debut.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.1             Final Half: - 59.2               Margins: - 3m, 2m

MARYBOROUGH 15/09/19

Trial 1: - OUR SIR OLIVER showed his customary early pace to find the lead and ran along at a reasonable tempo. IMA SHOWGIRL moved into the death seat from the 600m after trailing the leader throughout and quickly moved up to join him. OUR SIR OLIVER had a good kick left however and got away from IMA SHOWGIRL over the concluding stages. ARISTOCRAT CHESTER was last of the three runners throughout but he was trialling outside of his grade.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.4           Final Half: - 58.0               Margins: - 6m, 20m

Trial 2: - DYNAMITE DOZER was the only pacer in the trial and came from last of the three runners to win comfortably. DEALERS KNOCK began extremely quickly from the mobile to lead by approximately 15m. He rolled along throughout the entire trial and kicked on solidly when tackled in the final stages. ANGELS BREATH trailed the leader and lost ground but just followed around without being pushed.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.3             Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - 6m,20m

Trial 3: - TA FAILTE ROTE pushed forward to find the lead shortly after the start. He ran along at a nice tempo and proved too strong at the finish. MAJOR BANKS settled fifth on the markers and moved up without cover at the 1200m. He found room to angle in behind TA FAILTE ROTE coming up to the bell lap and tried hard at the finish. CREDON STAR began quickly to find the markers first then was under hard restraint to allow TA FAILTE ROTE to find the lead. He lost his position coming up to the bell and ended up being three back on the markers but he held on for a distant third. THE GREEN FAIRY settled four back on the markers, angled into the one out and one back trail then went back to the markers again when the field shuffled up with 1000m remaining. She finished fourth ahead of SHADY HANOVER (4/5 back markers) and the trotter COCO COUTURE was last throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.8             Final Half: - 59.6               Margins: - 6m, 30m

Trial 4: - SHELDON (Maffioso – For Sevens Sake 2.0.2, $10,163) picked up his second trial win at Maryborough in as many weeks and scored over ROYAL APOLLO (Shadow Play – Tessanover) with the two times winning mare CANDY MANDY finishing in third position. ORPHAN CODY (Grinfromeartoear – Can Y Gwent 1.59.8, $21,055) finished fourth ahead of the nicely bred trotting mare PINEVALE MONNAIE (Ready Cash – Pinevale Ellason 2.2.9, $72,300).

Mile Rate: - 2.5.6             Final Half: - 60.8               Margins: - 6m, 4m

Trial 5: - LITTLE YANKEE trailed the leader EYES FROM HEAVEN throughout and was able to get up and win on the line. He did look to have plenty in reserve at the finish. MAJESTIC ACHIEVER galloped shortly after the start and lost approximately 15m early. He settled last of the three runners and used the sprint lane over the latter stages.

Mile Rate: - 2.11.6           Final Half: - 62.2               Margins: - Short Head, 10m

Trial 6: - CHARLIE WALKER (Louey Louey Louey – Telern Tilly 2.6.3, $40,791) jumped to the front from the standing start before taking cover behind CHU CHITS, which then handed the lead up to IONA SPIDER at the mile marker. IONA SPIDER looked in control from that point and ambled away in the final stages to win comfortably. CHU CHITS held down second in front of SOHO LEDGER, which came from last of the four runners to get passed CHARLIE WALKER in the latter stages.

Mile Rate: - 2.10.0           Final Half: - 61.3               Margins: - 10m, 8m

KYABRAM 15/09/19

Trial 1: - The handy trotter RORY MCHINSON for trainer Mick Blackmore was able to win the trial over his stable mate FLAMIN STEEL (Bettors Delight – Philtra Girl 1.57.3, $5,169) with BALLTERRA, which was stood down to trial after galloping at Shepparton, finishing last of the three runners.

Last Mile: - 2.8.2               Final Half: - 61.6               Margins: - 2m, 2m

Bendigo 15/09/19

Trial 1: - CLARKES HILL stepped away quickly from the standing start and was untroubled in leading all of the way. DECLAN HENRY angled in behind CLARKES HILL and was able to remain in second after trailing the leader throughout. GRAEMES WISH (Pegasus Spur – Manuka Miss) finished third after being three back on the markers throughout. DELS DESTINY (Pegasus Spur – Sueno) was four back on the markers but travelled awkwardly at various points of the trial and eventually broke stride with 450m remaining. BAGSHOT BOY (Bacardi Lindy – Nikality) stepped away reasonably from the standing start but galloped shortly afterwards then galloped again in the back straight and was tailed off throughout.

Mile Rate: - 2.10.2           Final Half: - 59.4               Margins: - 5m, 6m

Trial 2: - SHE WILL ROCK was a Kilmore winner on debut in June and returned with a comfortable trial victory. She led out then took cover behind WHERES WOOD WOOD (Mach Three – Vertigal 1.55.8, $317,380) before launching a winning claim on the home turn. EMIJAY settled three back on the markers and finished off well to snare second in front of WHERES WOOD WOOD.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.1             Final Half: - 59.0               Margins: - 1m, 3m

Trial 3: - SEASONG (Auckland Reactor – Bella Paloma 2.0.6, $42,995) is out of a handy race mare and has been going nicely at the trials. She settled three back on the markers and moved into the death seat in the back straight on the final occasion. She proved too good for the early leader AMENDMENT THIRTEEN and might be worth following at her debut. AMENDMENT THIRTEEN finished second and well in front of MISS HULLABALOO, which raced three back on the markers throughout. LEWIS LANE began well but restrained back to be last and remained in that position, yielding ground over the latter stages.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.2             Final Half: - 57.2               Margins: - 1m, 9m

BLACKBOOKER: - Seasong

TABCORP PARK, MELTON

Trial 1: - CRUZ BROMAC continued his New Zealand preparation in the standing start trial but unfortunately for his connections, he had no rivals. Importantly, he stepped away nicely from the stand and he did dash home in a slick final quarter of 26.5 seconds.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.7             Final Half: - 55.8

Trial 2: - DON ABRASCO hasn’t raced since December but he won his trial very comfortably by leading all of the way. I CHOOSE (Bacardi Lindy – Joyces Choice 2.11.2, $4,215) did everything right in the trial and finished second after trailing the leader. MEGEVE (The Best Madrik – The Kahmotion) was third after being three back on the markers. ARAIGNEE FLAIR (Yankee Spider – Petite Flair 2.4.1, $3,675) galloped in the score up and again in the back straight on the first occasion. MY LINDY ANGELS (Bacardi Lindy – My Two Angels) broke stride at the start and lost approximately 40m before chasing hard to tack on. She moved up without cover coming up to the bell but galloped again when seemingly the early effort was taking a toll.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.6             Final Half: - 59.99             Margins: - 22m, 11.5m

Trial 3: - REGAL PEPPERELL ran to the lead shortly after the start and appeared to be enjoying his work as he had his ears pricked for most of the journey. He held off the challenge of ILLCRYIFHEWINDS, which trailed him throughout. The margin was a narrow one but it is fair to say none of the three trotters were fully extended at any stage. ILLAWONG BYRON was three back on the markers and ran up behind REGAL PEPPERELL in the straight. He was seemingly coasting to the post.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.1             Final Half: - 60.30             Margins: - Head, 4m

Trial 4: - HOLY BASIL backed up his impressive trial win a week earlier with an effortless victory where he led throughout and dashed home in a quick final quarter of 27.63 seconds. He appears to have a big future. MOLLYWOOD settled last of the three runners and moved to the outside of FOUR LONELY NIGHTS rounding the final corner. He worked into second position but was a good distance away from HOLY BASIL at the finish.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.6             Final Half: - 56.44             Margins: - 24.5m, 7m

Trial 5: - ELITA showed good early speed and was able to find the lead. She rolled along at a reasonable tempo and was able to cling on to win narrowly. LONG WEEKEND began slowly and was 15m away in last position early. ILLAWONG NIGELLA (Mach Three – Illawong Geraldine 1.56.8, $39,019) couldn’t keep her position coming up to the bell and pushed LONG WEEKEND back further. LONG WEEKEND was approximately 40m behind the leader with a lap remaining and did well to chase hard and only be beaten by a neck on the line. FLEETWOOK ROCK (Pet Rock – Trojan Fire) trailed the leader throughout and finished a close up third in front of BURNFOURU (Courage Under Fire – Allfouru), which went to the line with no clear run and seemingly had something in reserve. ILLAWONG NIGELLA dropped out to be a distant last.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.3             Final Half: - 58.70             Margins: - Neck, Head

 SHEPPARTON 17/09/19

Trial 1: - MA KATIE (Courage Under Fire – Bromac Del Mar 1.56.5, $43,319) trailed the leader on the first corner but galloped and dropped out to last. She travelled well mid-race and circled the field nicely in the last 400m to win the trial with something in hand. DEALMAKER (Rock N Roll Heaven – Miss Elvira 1.59.5, $23,938) finished second after settling in fifth position before moving up without cover from the bell. STARESS began quickly to find the front then took cover with a lap remaining. He finished third in front of IN A SPIN (Blissfull Hall – Foreverdancing), which settled four back on the markers before being held up for a run at a vital stage. She finished off okay but raced a little greenly late. THE DRUMMER BOY came out well and angled in behind the leader when MA KATIE broke stride. He dashed around STARESS to take the front at the bell but he was collared on the home turn. BINNO MAJOR (Art Major – Saved A Corka 1.59.1, $130,397) settled three back on the markers and finished last of the six runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.6             Final Half: - 61.6               Margins: - 2m, 1m

Trial 2: - YANKEE ROLLER began well and was able to edge passed the early leader OUR EDWARD LEWIS to take up the front running role. He was in a dominant position thereafter and he strolled away to win by a large margin and without being extended, which was impressive considering the final half of 55.3 seconds. OUR EDWARD LEWIS finished second in front of SHE KEEPS COMING, which did a big job to make up ground out wide on the track when coming from last. TENNAYA settled three back on the markers and finished fourth ahead of THE DIAMOND KING (4 back markers) and ELISKA (5 back markers).

Mile Rate: - 2.0.4             Final Half: - 55.3               Margins: - 20m, 10m

Trial 3: - SAN CARLO continues to trial well in a lead up to his return to the races. He pushed forward to find the lead and ambled around at his leisure throughout. SOFALA was a nice trial effort. He began well and was able to head off TRENDY BROMAC early before taking cover behind SAN CARLO. He went to the line under a good hold and hard on the back of the winner. TRENDY BROMAC was never seriously pushed either and finished in third position. OUR SUMMER BAY was four back on the markers throughout and beat home the former Tasmanian pacer ADELE SAID.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.8           Final Half: - 56.5               Margins: - 4m, 4m

Trial 4: - POCKETFULLOFCASH started off the handicap of 40m but quickly tacked onto the group with a slow early tempo being set by the leader ROCKFORD PEACH (Great Success – Our First Strike 2.10.8, $18,290). He then circled into the lead with a lap remaining and always appeared to be in control. He did have a little skip in his action late but he won comfortably. ROCKFORD PEACH held down second in front of FLIPPIN ISSY, which was three back on the markers throughout. ANTIGONUS (Yankee Spider – Golden Antigone) was four back on the markers and beat home OUR INDEPENDENCE, which galloped and lost approximately 80m early before tacking on and tiring from the 600m.

Mile Rate: - Not Given  Final Half: - Not Given  Margins: - 8m, 8m (approximately)

BALLARAT 17/09/19

Trial 1: - STAR ROCKER (A Rocknroll Dance – Starburst Girl 1.53.6, $143,670) was able to lead comfortably and held off the late challengers to score by a narrow margin. FLYHIGHTANNER (Art Major – Ultimate CC 1.57.4, $35,203) trailed the leader and came to the outside before the home turn. He lost ground at that point but balanced up in the straight and just failed to overhaul the winner. LIZZADRO (A Rocknroll Dance – Gold Castle) settled three back on the markers and worked up behind the leader on the home turn. He got a run between STAR ROCKER and FLYHIGHTANNER in the home straight and missed out narrowly. JILLIBY TAMEKA (Sportswriter – Jilliby Ruby 2.6.1, $10,519) went to go forward early but was left without cover and was restrained to last. She finished at the tail of the field but it is fair to say that not one of the four horses were fully extended in the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.8             Final Half: - 58.2               Margins: - Head, 1m

Trial 2: - SCARLETT BREW raced behind the leader, which was her younger sister VICTORIA BREW throughout the trial and came to the outside in the home straight. She was able to get up on the line to win by a narrow margin. QUICK STING (Roll With Joe – Kilfenora 2.2.4, $24,725) dropped back to be fourth on the inside before moving up without cover from the 400m. He ran into third in front of KEAYANG SHADY (Shadyshark Hanover – Alimar Star) (3 back markers) and JILLIBY ROY (We Will See – Jilliby Mia) (5 back markers).

Mile Rate: - 1.59.8           Final Half: - 56.7               Margins: - Head, 12m

Trial 3: - The former outstanding juvenile THE STORM INSIDE is on the comeback trail and continues to impress. He trailed the leader ALL A BREEZE and came to the outside around the final corner. He got the better of ALL A BREEZE late and scored untouched. ALL A BREEZE wasn’t fully extended either and the final half was a quick 55.7 seconds. JILLIBY ROYAL was last of the three horses throughout and dropped off when the leaders sprinted hard approaching the home turn.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.0           Final Half: - 55.7 (26.7 ¼!) Margins: - Head, 25m

Trial 4: - PHOENIX PRINCE was able to lead around the first corner and set up a reasonable tempo before blasting home in a final half of 54.9 seconds. ROCKNROLL ICON was able to angle in behind PHOENIX PRINCE on the home turn and was never asked for an effort, remaining on the back of the leader at the finish. JILLIBY CHEVY settled three back on the inside and moved to the death seat in the latter stages. He picked up a couple of metres late, which was a big effort considering the sectional times the leader recorded. SOMEROCKSOMEROLL was last of the four runners throughout but held his own late.

Mile Rate: - 1.57.1           Final Half: - 54.9 (1/4 26.4!) Margins: - 4m, 2m

Trial 5: - The final trial consisted of three outstanding horses with TAM MAJOR being able to lead throughout. SHADOW SAX settled last and made up ground to be beaten narrowly. He recorded sizzling final fractions to get as close as he did and MARAETAI wasn’t too far away after trailing the leader throughout.

Mile Rate: - 1.56.6           Final Half: - 54.3               Margins: - Head, 2m
