Two more eye-catching two-year-olds from Mick Stanley and Marg Lee stables, an unraced Scott Stewart filly and a newly arrived Kiwi all caught the eye and found their way into this week's Trial File Blackbook.

BACCHUS MARSH 14/03/20

Trial 1: - FRANCO has been a consistent performer throughout his career and has been lightly raced recently. He recorded handy time in his victory over REGAL CHEVAL, which hasn’t had much luck since an incredible win at Geelong. UPANATOM was in third position ahead of the claiming pacer ROBERT THE BRUCE.

Trial 2: - FLOATING MOUNTAIN is a handy 3yo trotter and he has uncharacteristically made a few errors recently. He won the second trial by a large margin over FLING IT RAINBOW, which galloped at her only start to date with LETHAL LES finishing in third position. TANISHAS DREAM (Conch Deville – Gina Dawn) finished in fourth position ahead of ATEGO JET, which hasn’t raced since 2017, with ROLL WITH ROSCO (Roll With Joe – Petousa 1.57.3, $180,217) coming in last of the five competitors.

Trial 3: - ROCKARIA (Pet Rock – Classic Amy 2.1.6, $33,760) was able to defeat the juvenile MOMENTSLIKETHESE (Art Major – Mint Julep), which is out of a daughter of the great mare Jadah Rose, by a narrow margin for trainer and driver Darby McGuigan. BRONSKI LAD hasn’t raced since September but managed to finish third ahead of DON’T WORRY PAT (Pet Rock – Atlarak) and LISAS NIGHTMARE (Modern Art – Dark Blue Sapphire 1.57.1, $21,880) finished last of the five runners.

Trial 4: - LOOKS THE PART finished third in the Home Grown Classic during his juvenile season back in 2016 but he hasn’t raced since May 2017. He was able to defeat WONDERFORCE with PEARLESCENT filling third but a distance away. UNION FORCE filled fourth spot ahead of CONFUSIONANDDELAY and UNION BOSS (Union Guy – Torrential Hannah 1.57.4, $50,498), which was the only horse in the trial that hadn’t raced previously, was last of the six runners.

Trial 5: - IM A DENNY TOO is a former New Zealand pacer, which won two races on the North Island before heading across the Tasman. He ran home in a slick last 800m and won his trial easily so he obviously has plenty of ability. ILLAWONG PARRIS finished in second ahead of POWER OF FAITH. MIRARI was fourth in a trial where the runners came in at long intervals and MOZZARELLA MAN was tailed off in last position.

BLACKBOOKER: - Im A Denny Too

Trial 6: - COCOSFELLA returns to Victoria after a stint with the Tritton stable in NSW where he won the New Season Gift in a mile of 1.50.8 at Menangle in September. He has failed to fire recently but he recently joined trainer Jess Tubbs and he recorded fast time in his trial victory. FLY CHEVAL has been racing nicely and finished a distant second with CARMY DAN in third position. ROCKNROLL PRINCE and ZALTA were both beaten by a long margin in four and fifth position respectively.

Trial 7: - ZOOMAS LEGEND overcame the handicap of 40m and defeated LUCKY PATS SON, which hasn’t raced since November, with the 3yo filly AMUNET ending up in third position. EXCELLENT DROP ran a nice race for second on debut and followed with her trial fourth, finishing ahead of the good beginner ZAMBA DEVILLE, the unraced WILCANNIA (Andover Hall – Wheels To Go) and the locally trained ARU AND ME.

MARYBOROUGH 15/03/20

Trial 1: - SAVANNAH JAY JAY settled four back on the inside and moved into the death seat from the 800m when he got up to claim victory on the line. WINGATE GUY (Union Guy – Alberts Belle) was without cover early before moving into the lead at the 1900m and battled on gamely for second. BUSTERS GRIN led out then took cover and finished third ahead of ARDEN BLISS, which settled three back on the markers and began yielding ground from the 500m mark.

Trial 2: - NAI HARN BAY (Somebeachsomewhere – Bring Her Back) settled three back on the markers and came out three horses wide on the home turn when he got to the front then held off ADAM CROCKER to score narrowly. ADAM CROCKER settled down in last position and pulled hard mid-race but he finished off very strongly, missing out narrowly on the line. PACIFIC ROCK trailed the leader, moved up without cover at the 500m mark and finished third while the early leader REEKO REACTOR dropped out late to finish at the tail of the field.

Trial 3: - MATTS DELIGHT (Betterthancheddar – Miss Mach Kana 1.59.2, $13,311) trailed the leader IAMAWINGATE (I Am The Way – Alberts Belle) and was able to edge past that pacer in the final 125m to get the prize. The Sire of IAMAWINGATE, I Am The Way NZ is a twelve times winning son of Devil’s Adversary, which has only had three live foals. BORG AM I (Blissfull Hall – Moore Cullen 2.1.3, $15,858) was last of the three runners throughout and began yielding ground with 700m remaining.

Trial 4: - DEALERS KNOCK showed very good gate speed to lead, coasted around for the trip and scored comfortably. He did roll away from the markers around the home turn and was eased down on the line so he could have won by further. CHARLIE WALKER trailed DEALERS KNOCK throughout and finished second with SURBITON PRETENDER remaining in last position but he only just failed to peg back CHARLIE WALKER in the run to the post.

Trial 5: - ARMBRO HUGH settled down last of the three competitors, moved into the death seat at the 800m and outstayed his rivals to win easily. EYES FROM HEAVEN attempted to lead all of the way and finished second with SURBITON ARMISTICE galloping from behind the leader with 700m remaining and losing his chance.

Trial 6: - GYPSY LEA won the final trial, which was a field of two from the standing start. She baulked at the start when the tape flew but got away pacing and was able to lead. The juvenile trotter MUSTANG KELLY trailed GYPSY LEA and came to the outside at the quarter pole. MUSTANG KELLY had GYPSY LEA covered and hit the lead on the home turn but she galloped and lost her chance at the end.

KYABRAM 15/03/20

Trial 1: - JUST A PHILTRA galloped at the start in the Kath Muir Memorial and was placed out of the draw so she headed to the trials and was able to take the opening event at Kyabram. ARTMANIA finished in second position with HARD ROAD (Our First Fantasy – Mary Ann Brandon 2.3.3, $11,166) being in third spot. HARD ROAD is by former New South Wales trained pacer Our First Fantasy NZ, a son of Island Fantasy, which won ten of his twenty-two starts and only produced six live foals, two have already raced. BONNY TAYLAH finished fourth ahead of GRENADE (Major Bronski – Miss Emjay 2.3.8, $3,246).

Trial 2: - ROSLYN GAYE had a good run of success around the turn of the season but her form tapered and she was spelled after her latest unplaced run in October. She recorded handy time for Kyabram and defeated A SPECIAL DREAM and MURANO. FULLOFMISCHIEF (Major Bronski – Miss Jules 2.2.8, $16,032) is yet to have made his debut and was taking on the winners of multiple races so it was no disgrace to come in last of the four runners.

BENDIGO 16/03/20

Trial 1: - FRATELLINO settled down in third position and came to the outside on the home turn when he finished off best to take out the opening trial. ZAREM galloped away from the standing start, settled last out of the four and ran up into a dead-end on the home turn. He gained a run though the middle and finished off quickly to finish second. ENDSIN A PARTY trail the leader and came to the outside with 600m remaining. He was able to beat home the early leader SPIDERS DEVIL.

Trial 2: - MULBERRY PIE stepped away nicely to find the lead and was untroubled in scoring. COUNTESS CHIRON settled three back on the markers, moved around to trail the leader in the back straight and came to the outside again on the home turn. She battled into second position with JETS TO JAZZ (Framework – Zesky) finishing third after trailing the leader and yielding ground from the 700m mark.  KING JAFFA (Danny Bouchea – Wendy Robyn) galloped badly at the start and was virtually tailed off throughout.

Trial 3: - BEACH COMBER (Somebeachsomewhere – Dream A Rainbow) galloped in the score up and missed the start by 20m, took advantage of a slow early tempo to tack on and circle the field to find the lead with a lap remaining then held on to win the trial narrowly. OZZIE DAYBREAK (Dawn ofa New Day – Miss Laura Jane 1.56.8, $146,545) showed good gate speed to lead, took cover at the bell then galloped at the half mile marker, losing 15m. He maintained second position and he chased after his stable mate, just failing to peg him back on the line. UNION KING (Art Major – Live in Abby 2.1.0, $11,393) finished in third position after settling down third then being relegated to last of the four at the bell. He was able to get past THE CHOOK (Life Sign – My Classical Bell), which trailed the leader early before ending up three back on the markers and started yielding ground at the 700m mark.

Trial 4: - The 2yo pacer TREACHEROUS SAINT (Captaintreacherous – Saint Theory 2.1.8, $14,104) took on the trotters and was able to get the prize after he settled down in fifth position and moved up without cover for the final 800m. DOUBLE DOT began in third, pushed forward to find the lead then took cover behind HIGHLAND HILL with 1300m remaining. She was able to gun down HIGHLAND HILL in the latter stages to pick up second position. IM MISS ROYALTY was the fastest to begin and found the lead early before taking cover. She ended up being three back on the markers and finished fourth in front of TRUMPIT LIL, which trailed her throughout. LEOTARDANDLACE (Down Under Muscles – Estee Poppy) galloped in the early stages of the trial and was tailed off for the remainder of the trip.

Trial 5: - PIPPI (Auckland Reactor – Embellished 2.1.0, $21,100) was able to lead throughout in a very slowly run trial where no one wanted to take the front running role at the start. It was a dash up the straight and PIPPI was able to hold off LITTLEBITOFMAGIC, which trailed her throughout. RINELLA (Village Jasper – Sharnica) settled down last of the four runners, moved away from the markers and came out three horses wide from the quarter pole, getting into third position late. SOHO KYOTO (Bettors Delight – Chip And Gale 1.52.6, $563,343) raced without cover for the entire trip and saw the entire field safely home.

Trial 6: - NELBELL ran to the front shortly after the start then took cover behind GALACTIC GAL with 1500m remaining. She came to the outside on the home turn and finished off best to win in a good finish. HANOVER STARZZZ settled down sixth on the markers and moved up without cover from the 700m mark. She ended up being three horses wide on the final bend when NELBELL moved away from the inside and she finished off nicely to be beaten narrowly on the line. GALACTIC GAL was one out and one back in the early stages, moved forward in the back straight on the first occasion and ran to the lead just past the mile marker. She battled on for a close third with MAGNIFIED trailing into the race from last and sneaking along the sprint lane late for a close up fourth. HURRICANESTAR (Changeover – Future Sign) ended up being three back on the markers and finished fifth ahead of SPECULATOR (4 back markers) and IZAKATIE (Four Starzzz Shark – Readymade Lombo 2.1.8, $17,330) (without cover, 5 back markers) dropped out to finish a good margin from the leading pack.

Trial 7: - IONA SPIDER was clearly the class runner of the field and was able to zip to the lead in the early stages. She was unchallenged from the start to the finish and jogged away from her rivals to win comfortably. BLIS VALLEY trailed the leader throughout and held down second in front of YANKEE TWISTER (Yankee Spider – Telern Grace). TRUSCOTT SUN galloped at the start and was tailed off for the entire trial.

Trial 8: - COURAGEOUS SAINT led, set up a slow tempo and finished off in a very quick final half to win the trial comfortably. FEEL THE BUZZ held down second after trailing the leader throughout with WAYONBYE finishing in third position. FORM ANALYST settled last of the four and was the widest runner into the straight. He made little impression over the final stages but his effort was still sound as sectionally, it would have been impossible for him to win from where he was at the half mile marker.

Trial 9: - NOMORELYING was quite impressive in the last trial of the night. He settled down last of the five runners, moved into the death seat with 700m remaining and continued to make up good ground in the final circuit. He hit the lead in the final 100m and drew clear to win. ART FINEST trailed the leader FREMARKSGONZO and used the sprint lane. He was able to drive through into second placing with FREMARKSGONZO being one metre away in third position. That trio were able to get well clear of OURBEACHSOMEWHERE (4 back markers) with OUR DANDY (3 back markers) dropping out to be at the tail end of the field.

TABCORP PARK, MELTON 16/03/20

Trial 1: - COVER OF DARKNESS (Majestic Son – Illawong Moonshine 1.58.1, $63,515) is a nicely bred colt and showed plenty of potential even though he still has a lot to learn. He found the lead and wanted to pull hard for most away, occasionally hanging out, but he drew well clear over the latter stages. FLYIN FIRST CLASS (Caribbean Blaster – Flyin Indi Air 1.58.1, $100,119) trailed the leader throughout and finished second and ZINGARA LASS remained last of the three competitors.

Trial 2: - SAYITAINTSO JOE (Roll With Joe – Beach Shack 1.53.2, $148,702) settled five back on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail and showed a brilliant turn of speed in the final 50m when an impressive winner. TREACHEROUS ROCK (Captaintreacherous – La Saint 2.0.8, $78,064) tried to lead throughout and was nabbed right on the line. SOHO BROADWAY (Bettors Delight – Pixel Perfect) settled four back on the markers and moved up with cover in the final lap. He boxed on well for third in front of SOHO OSAKA (Somebeachsomewhere – Soho Tokyo 1.54.2, $176,316), which trailed the leader throughout. IM LADY EVELYN (Shadow Play – Tia Franco) was last for the majority of the journey and worked past LET’S GO MARSHALL (Hurrikane Kingcole – Sokysatin) (three back markers) over the latter stages.

BLACKBOOKER: - Sayitaintso Joe

Trial 3: - STARLIGHT SAFARI began quickly to find the lead and was able to finish off in a quick final half to win comfortably. SPORTZSCRIBE was able to trail STARLIGHT SAFARI throughout and came to the outside in the straight. He was chipping away late but he couldn’t peg back the winner. ROLLONBY (Roll With Joe – Beach Melody 1.54.7, $101,825) settled four back on the inside and made up some ground so he produced a handy performance. MYPARIS (Mr Feelgood – Eden Bromac) broke at the start and wanted to hang out early. She settled at the tail of the field and picked up CALYPSO MISTRESS (3 back markers, without cover) in the final stages.

Trial 4: - LUCKY PATS SON showed good gate speed to lead and kicked on very strongly when challenged down the straight so he produced a good performance. EMERALD STRIDE settled last of the four runners, moved up without cover from the 600m mark and chased hard. She did want to hang in over the latter stages, which cost her momentum and a little bit of ground. COCO LOMBO finished third after being three back on the markers throughout and MYRNIONG RAINBOW dropped out after trailing the leader throughout.

Trial 5: - ALICE KAY settled eighth on the outside, came out four horses wide on the home turn and finished off boldly to record a big victory. SEIZE POWER was four back on the markers early before gaining a one out and one back trail. He came out three horses wide on the home turn and finished well but he couldn’t repel the challenge of the good filly ALICE KAY late. The trotter AUNTIE POPPY finished in third position after setting the speed and IAN RAYMOND was fourth after trailing her throughout. FOUR LONELY NIGHTS settled down in second last position before moving up without cover from the 1800m mark. He battled into fifth but beat home ARTS DASH (3 back markers) and BETTA BOPPER (without cover, 5 back markers, pulled hard).

Trial 6: - FAKE SMILE trailed the leader and accelerated beautifully via the sprint lane to score nicely. OUR STEP UP settled three back on the markers and came to the outside of the home turn. She finished off strongly but FAKE SMILE was able to hold her at bay. PERSPECTIVE tried to lead throughout but hung out under pressure in the latter stages and came in last of the three runners.

Trial 7: - MOONSHINE STRIDE stepped away fairly well from the handicap of 20m, was third early then progressed to the lead and held on to score. ROI DU SOLEIL (Danny Bouchea – Rockin Wilma 2.2.9, $59,390) followed MOONSHINE STRIDE for most of the journey before coming to the outside with 400m remaining. He chased hard and just failed to peg back the winner. WATCH AND ACT (Skyvalley – Misty Elle) began okay but broke stride after 100m then galloped again shortly afterwards. He gave the other juvenile trotter NANA EMJAY (Great Success – Lime And Lemonade 2.9.0, $9,913) (3 back markers) a big start but was able to chase her down in the latter stages.

SHEPPARTON 17/03/20

Trial 1: - ROMANCES trailed the leader EVERY SECOND COUNTS and came to the outside with 450m remaining. She moved alongside the leader in the home straight and was able to edge on past in the final stages. EVERY SECOND COUNTS did go to the post under a hard hold however and seemed to have plenty in reserve. IMA DESTROYER (Im Stately – Strike Destroyer 2.5.3, $36,119) galloped away and lost approximately 40m at the start. She finished third in front of SEEYOUINMYDREAMS (Muscle Hill – Figment 2.6.1, $44,003), which began okay but galloped shortly after the start then again with 1800m remaining.

Trial 2: - CUTTY SARK (Somebeachsomewhere – Lombo Cloud Nine 1.55.3, $102,310) trailed the leader SMOOTH ROLLING throughout and was able to get home best in the run to the finish. SMOOTH ROLLING was able to kick on and finish second in front of LESTER, which settled down last and was out three horses wide on the home turn. MACH HAMMER (Mach Three – Carpenters Daughter 1.56.1, $293,378) finished last after being three back on the markers throughout but he was never extended at any stage.

Trial 3: - LIFE GETS BETTER settled fourth on the outside and was shuffled back a position further shortly after the start (1-2) before making a move out three horses wide from the 800m mark. He was able to dash to the front on the turn and held off his rivals in the run to the judge. CASSIOPEIA pushed forward in the early stages, eventually found the lead then took cover shortly afterwards. She worked home well for second with BRIE in third. BRIE showed the most speed to lead early, took cover then was shuffled back on the inside (3 back) before finishing off nicely. ENCRYPTION (Rock N Roll Heaven – Still In Denial 1.56.3, $21,570) ended up being four back on the markers and finished fourth. LETHAL LOVER came from last and finished off strongly for an eye-catching fifth with AFTER DARN (1-3) filling sixth position. COULD BE WOODY was without cover early before gaining a one out and one back trail and battled into seventh, beating home LOST FOR WORDS (without cover 1100m) and BINNO MAJOR (Art Major – Saved A Corka 1.59.1, $130,397), which was aggressively driven to find the lead at the mile marker but tired over the latter stages.

Trial 4: - SPRING IN HIS STEP (Somebeachsomewhere – Summa of Dreams 1.57.5, $37,330) trailed the leader, moved into the death seat at the 400m and was able to prove too good in the run to the finish. He did seem to want to switch off once he found the lead with 100m remaining. HELANSIN (Somebeachsomewhere – Eye Like Candy 1.55.8, $48,542) tried to lead throughout and kicked on well once headed. GIANNIS AY MACRAY (Grinfromeartoear – Macray Rosewood) was last of the three runners throughout and lost ground when pacing roughly under pressure approaching the home turn.

Trial 5: - MAJOR BOB settled six back on the markers and moved into the death seat at the 1300m. He produced a strong performance and was able to grind out a victory. MACH THE KNIFE was racing in Victoria back in 2018 before having stints in New South Wales and Queensland. He began very quickly from a wide draw and found the front at the 1700m. He wanted to hang in occasionally but he fought hard in the straight and went down by a narrow margin. HOLSTEIN (Major Bronski – Havilah Mistress) began very quickly and went with MACH THE KNIFE early before taking cover. He used the sprint lane and finished a close up third. PEPPA BLISS (Bitobliss – Safari Love) put in an eye-catching performance to finish fourth. She settled seven back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail and went to the line with plenty in reserve. IDEAL CULLECT (Big Jim – Cullectakiss) settled three back on the inside and finished fifth ahead of ALWAYS GRINNING (4 back markers), BONNY TAYLAH (5 back markers) and GRAND VIEW (last, 1-2) (Fly Like An Eagle – Miss North).

BLACKBOOKER: - Peppa Bliss

Trial 6: - Only two horses contested the sixth trial and SO AWESOME led throughout to defeat the unraced 3yo trotter HAMMERS MUSCLE (Muscle Hill – Zoia Boko) by a large margin.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.8            Final Half: - 60.2               Margin: 35m

Trial 7: - SAN CARLO had a lot of class on his rivals and he was given a hard hit out by Rebecca Bartley as she guided him back in the score up and missed the start by approximately 30m before giving chase. He moved up without cover from the 1300m mark, raced keenly then wanted to switch off when he hit the front in the final 100m but he got the job done. TECHYS ANGEL trailed the leader and chased hard in the final stages to finish a nice second. JULIACA pushed forward to find the lead and started to race fiercely when SAN CARLO came up on her outside. She battled into third position ahead of STARRY MACH, which settled fifth on the markers before moving onto the back of A SPECIAL DREAM. A SPECIAL DREAM settled four back on the inside and moved away from the markers with 600m remaining. He beat home AXINITE (3 back markers) and EMERGING TALENT (6 back markers).

KILMORE 17/03/20

Trial 1: - PATCHED (Skyvalley – Bella Mosca) settled three back on the inside, followed his stable mate GOOBER forward and was left without cover from the 600m mark when a convincing winner. GOOBER trailed the leader but quickly pounced in the back straight on the final occasion. He had his chance to win if he was good enough but he found his stable mate to be too strong on the day. KEEPING IT CLASSY tired into fourth after setting the speed and CROW POWER failed to finish after making an error at the start.

Trial 2: - EUROKING (Somebeachsomewhere – The Perfect Mona 2.0.3, $4,620) was an impressive winner after he trailed the leader early, moved around to find the front at the 1200m and dominated from that point. He wanted to hang out on various occasions but he scored by a large margin. LA CAPTAIN (Captaintreacherous – La Machane 1.54.6, $335,268) settled four back on the markers and finished off strongly once he came to the outside. ISLAND BLUE CHIP (Heston Blue Chip – Special Needs 2.0.5, $27,578) settled three back on the markers and finished third in front of DOUBLE HAPPINESS (Rock N Roll Heaven – Our Waltzing Mathilda 1.57.7, $12,131), which led out then took cover.

Trial 3: - LITTLE PEANUT appeared to be particularly well placed considering he was taking on two trotters and he came from last to win comfortably. CRUISIN AROUND attempted to lead throughout and wanted to race fiercely. He battled on well in the straight. OUR THUNDER BUDDY trailed CRUISIN AROUND and was hard on the back of his stable mate before he broke stride with 150m to run.

Trial 4: - SHANIA TEE led comfortably in a start where all of her rivals were keen to ease and take cover. She was unchallenged throughout and won comfortably. SHES A HOVERCRAFT finished second after trailing the leader throughout and SNAZOLA (Tell All – Jackieola) was third for the entire trip. The only change from the start to the finish was MISS SPORTY LOMBO going around SPLIT EAR (Night of the Stars – Voce 1.58.6, $29,279) mid-race to finish in fourth position.

Trial 5: - MAGICAL was able to jump to the front from the pole position, set up a slow tempo and proved superior. The juvenile trotter HOTEL KYVALLEY (Father Patrick – Lindys Two Step USA) stepped away steadily, kept wider on the track and was cuddled around the first corner before angling in behind to take the trail. He finished second ahead of RYMES (Majestic Son – Genayas Girl), which was last throughout.

Trial 1: - It was a close finish in the trial for the 2yo trotters with KEAYANG NINJA (Wishing Stone – Another Clare 2.2.0, $48,902) defeating KEAYANG XENA (Father Patrick – Keayang Yankee 1.55.4, $51,240) by a head margin. SELLUNE (Skyvalley – Sunelle 2.6.2, $12,356) came in last of the three runners.

Trial 2: - MAORI AMOUR hasn’t raced since an unplaced effort at Terang in October but he was able to take out the second trial over the 3yo trotter ABITOFADREAMER with the unraced daughter of Majestic Son KAYLASISTER (Majestic Son – Decisive Dash) coming in last of the three runners.

Trial 3: - JILLIBY SYLVESTER (Roll With Joe – Jilliby Opal) is an unraced 3yo pacer for trainer Margaret Lee and he was able to defeat CAESARION, which was stood down to trial after going extremely hard in the early stages of his latest performance at Horsham. TO THE MAX finished in third position with the trotter SURELY NOT (Skyvalley – Paula Swifty 2.4.7, $28,030) being last of the four runners.

Trial 4: - KEAYANG KREUZER (Somebeachsomewhere – Inasafeplace 2.2.2, $10,365) was able to win from the unraced juvenile KEAYANG KAMIKAZE (Bettors Delight – Libertybelle Midfrew 1.53.9, $640,497) and both horses obviously showed ability with the final quarter being run in a sizzling 27.2 seconds. RAINBOWSNPEARLS (Rock N Roll Heaven – Soho Cannes 1.59.1, $115,282) was a distance away in third position with SCOTTS RAIN (Big Jim – Roman Jasper) coming in last of the four.
