Trial File: Quiet summer week a great time to head to the Beach

It was a very quiet week on the trials circuit as participants and clubs took a moment for some festive cheer, with only Cranbourne, which had two trials on December 27, stepping out.

Still, it was enough to produce a Blackbooker, with beautifully bred Kiki Beach impressing and earning a spot on the watch list.

CRANBOURNE 27/12/21

Trial 1: – KIKI BEACH (Somebeachsomewhere – Cyclone Betty 1.59.3, $68,186) began well and angled in behind the leader before the first turn. She travelled sweetly throughout and showed good acceleration at the end to win easily. There wasn’t anything startling about the mile rate and sectional times but there is a lot to like about the filly and she might be worth following. She is by Somebeachsomewhere out of the classy Bettor’s Delight mare Cyclone Betty, which has produced four winners including the outstanding pacers Our Waikiki Beach (1.50.4, $1,058,589) and Becher’s Brook (1.48.2, $332,610). She was a late foal so she should keep improving with maturity. DENZIL DEBRO (Rock N Roll Heaven – Braeview Creation 1.59.0, $53,000) showed very good gate speed to lead clearly but couldn’t repel the challenge of KIKI BEACH. BLANCO CANYON (Red Samurai – Miss Sally) is a juvenile trotter and was last of the three horses throughout.

Mile Rate: – 2.5.9            Last Half: – 59.6                Margins: – 15m, 116m

BLACKBOOKER: – Kiki Beach

Trial 2: – ETON ROCK didn’t really want to lead early and came out under a strong hold but no runner in the trial showed any gate speed so he was able to slide to the front. He then took cover with 1800m remaining behind CELESTIAL TREKKER and enjoyed an economical run. He came to the outside on the home turn and proved to be too quick in the run to the finish. MACHANE SAID (Well Said – La Machane 1.54.6, $335,268) is a nicely bred gelding for trainer Jayne Davies. His dam La Machane was a proven Group 1 winner and has produced two very good winners in La Puddie (1.54.3, $75,510) and Captaintreacherous (1.54.6, $23,260). He settled three back on the inside, came away from the markers at the 300m and was three horses wide on the home turn. He finished second with CELESTIAL TREKKER dropping back to third after setting the speed. MY LADY NATASHA (A Rocknroll Dance – Mach Class 1.56.6, $34,500) settled down in last position, lost ground when SOCIAL WRITER dropped off the pack with 700m remaining and came to the outside in the back straight on the final occasion. She was fourth and SOCIAL WRITER (4 back markers) was fifth after racing very roughly in the final circuit.

Mile Rate: – 2.3.8            Last Half: – 57.8                Margins: – 1.5m, Neck
