Trial File: Thelegendcontinues fires up ahead of a debut run

Harness Racing Victoria form guru Craig Rail liked the trial of Thelegendcontinues at Maryborough last Sunday.

“(He) began quickly to find the lead and ran along at an even tempo. He finished off in a slick final quarter of 28.3 seconds to win comfortably and he should go very well at his debut performance at Shepparton on Tuesday based on that performance,” he said.

Rail also added My Atlantis to his file this week.

TRIAL REPORT 295

BACCHUS MARSH 14/12/24

Trial 1: – LOVENUS prepared for her first up performance at Geelong tonight with a victory in the opening trial. She won by a comfortable margin over FLOATING MOUNTAIN with SHAQ THE ANVIL being five metres away in third position. Both FLOATING MOUNTAIN and SHAQ THE ANVIL backed up at the Melton trials on Tuesday afternoon.

Mile Rate: – 2.5.1                            Last Half: – 61.3                Margins: – 4m, 5m

Trial 2: – RAKAJED has recently returned from a New South Wales campaign and prepared for his first up effort at Bendigo on Wednesday night with a victory in slick time. He defeated TALLULAH LEE, which is backing up at Melton on Saturday night, with AVEIRO being the third horse across the line. AVEIRO was able to win at big odds at Ballarat on Thursday night and RAKAJED is racing again at Cranbourne on Sunday after his big first up win at Bendigo on Wednesday night.

MARYBOROUGH 15/12/24

Trial 1: – Only two horses contested the open class trial with MAJOR ANNIE NZ leading throughout to win easily. She set up a genuine tempo and MAJOR MANBAR, which hasn’t started since July, couldn’t stick with her over the latter stages.

Mile Rate: – 1.59.6                          Last Half: – 58.7                Margin: – 30m (approximately)

Trial 3: – SPORTS CHARM has joined trainer David Van Ryn since a winning debut performance with Aaron Dunn at Mildura. He settled three back on the inside, moved off the fence with 300m remaining and finished off best to win the trial over HES GONESKI, which attempted to lead all of the way. HERMAN RAY was the third horse across the line after settling last of the four runners and working past SURBITON CHARDONNAY (trailed leader). The winner SPORTS CHARM finished unplaced at Ballarat on Thursday night and HES GONESKI missed out by a slender margin at Charlton on Wednesday afternoon.

Mile Rate: – 2.3.6                            Last Half: – 57.8                Margins: – 2m, 15m

Trial 5: – KALKADOON DREAMING began quickly to find the lead and dominated his rivals. He was able to slip home in a slick final half to win by a large margin and considering he has a very low National Rating of 44, he can be well placed by his trainer Sean Rains during his current campaign. He is racing at Maryborough on Monday. TREACHEROUS JEWEL was three back on the markers early before moving through to trail the leader with 500m remaining. She battled on for a distant second ahead of HAIR RAZOR, which came away from behind the leader when leaving the back straight on the final occasion and battled on fairly late. TREACHEROUS JEWEL will also be competing at Maryborough on Monday.

Mile Rate: – 2.5.1                            Last Half: – 57.7                Margins: – 16m, 1m

He finished off in a slick final quarter of 28.3 seconds to win comfortably and he should go very well at his debut performance at Shepparton on Tuesday based on that performance. JILPANGAR ROSE settled three back on the markers and finished second and RETRO FIT was last of the three runners home after settling behind the leader.

Mile Rate: – 2.2.8                            Last Half: – 58.5                Margins: – 4m, 4m

BLACKBOOKER: – Thelegendcontinues

HORSHAM 15/12/24

Trial 1: – Trainer Aaron Dunn produced all three horses contesting the trial and there wasn’t much separating them at the finish. All three horses were contesting Super Series events at the end of their last campaign and haven’t started since September. RUFF NUT was able to win the trial from FORTY LOVE and LITTLE LOUIE and considering the final quarter was a sizzling 27.1 seconds, each of the runners obviously performed very well.

Mile Rate: – 1.58.0                          Last Half: – 55.1                Margins: – 1m, ½ neck

Trial 2: – OUR MASTER PLAY was stood down to trial after galloping at Mildura at his previous attempt and was able to re-qualify with a comfortable victory in handy time. He defeated the juvenile pacer WICKED HANGOVER with CASE FORTY EIGHT and ZAPPA being third and fourth across the line respectively. OUR MASTER PLAY will be backing up at Mildura this afternoon and WICKED HANGOVER will be competing at Maryborough on Monday.

Mile Rate: – 1.59.8                          Last Half: – 58.3                Margins: – 5.5m, 1m

CRANBOURNE 15/12/24

Trial 1: – FIREUPP is an unraced gelding for trainer Ray Matthews and was able to win the opening trial by a large margin. TED BEAR broke stride in a heat of the Home Grown Classic and was stood down to trial at his debut. He finished in second position on the way to his effort at Cranbourne on Sunday with LADY DEEKAYNWHY being last of the three runners across the line.

Mile Rate: – 2.5.6                            Last Half: – 60.8                Margins: – 44m, Neck

MELTON ENTERTAINMENT PARK 17/12/24

Trial 1: – TIPSY TURVY is a handy standing start performer, which struck trouble in the Gunbower Cup when she was resuming. She trailed the leader in the trial and finished off well to win comfortably. KOTA BHARU galloped away from the standing start and settled a clear last in the early stages. He chased hard over the final 200m and ran a game second. ITZ TRIXTON TIME NZ finished third after attempting to lead throughout.

Mile Rate: – 2.8.2                            Last Half: – 58.4                Margins: – 12m, 17m

Trial 3: – ARCEE PHOENIX began quickly to find the lead and set up a slow tempo. He finished off in a slick final quarter of 27.9 seconds and won comfortably in the run to the finish. AARDIEBYTHEHILL NZ is a very smart former New Zealand trotter, which joins trainer John Justice. He trailed the leader throughout and battled on okay for second with SHAQ THE ANVIL being third across the line after settling three back on the markers. HARRY STAMPER NZ began quickly but broke stride 50m after the start and was detached from the pack for the majority of the trial.

Mile Rate: – 2.2.4                            Last Half: – 57.3                Margins: – 9m, 11.5m

Trial 6: – KYKEEPMEPOSTED began quickly to find the lead and ran along at an even tempo. He appeared to be in trouble half way down the front straight but he fought hard when challenged and continued his good trial form to score. He is making his debut at Maryborough on Monday. IMPERIAL NIGHT settled three back on the markers, moved to the outside with 300m remaining and finished off well for second. He is backing up at Cranbourne on Sunday night. MY ULTIMATE SASSY began quickly and raced without cover early, angled in behind the leader then battled on fairly well in the straight for third.

Mile Rate: – 2.0.8                            Last Half: – 57.5                Margins: – 1.75, Neck

Trial 8: – DESIGNER VICI settled four back on the markers and moved to the outside with 700m remaining. He sustained a long run and was able to work home best to win untouched. LOVE WHO began quickly to find the lead and battled on well for second place with FLOATING MOUNTAIN being the third horse across the line after trailing the leader throughout. WATTS UP RAPTOR was doing his best work late from three back on the markers and finished in fourth position. He will be making his debut at Maryborough on Monday.

Mile Rate: – 2.4.1                            Last Half: – 59.9                Margins: – 1.75, Head

TERANG 17/12/24

Trial 1: – MY ATLANTIS is competing at Maryborough on Monday and appears to be very hard to beat in a Maiden event considering she defeated proven winners at the trial. She led out then took cover and came away from the markers at the 600m, sustaining a strong run to win comfortably. TREACHEROUS REIGN pushed forward to find the lead and finished in second with GOODTIME STRYKER coming from three back on the markers to finish in third. SHADOWLANDZ came from six back on the markers to pick up fourth spot. TREACHEROUS REIGN and GOODTIME STRYKER are both racing at Geelong tonight and SHADOWLANDZ is competing at Maryborough on Monday.

Mile Rate: – 2.0.5                            Last Half: – 60.9                Margins: – 4m, 20m

BLACKBOOKER: – My Atlantis

Trial 2: – JILLIBY GIDDEY settled five back on the inside and was spotting the leaders a big start when she commenced a run at the 600m mark. She finished off in grand style and was able to win impressively on the line. KEAYANG SEASIDE came from sixth on the markers to pick up second position and VAN SHARD came from last of the eight runners to pick up third. SHEZ MIKIS CRIME showed some promise but raced waywardly at the end. She led out, took cover then dashed to the front again at the 600m mark. She was being joined by JILLIBY GIDDY in the home straight when she hung in badly into the sprint lane and even ran off the track before dropping out but she would have filled a place otherwise.

Mile Rate: – 2.2.1                            Last Half: – 59.7                Margins: – 25m, Head

Trial 4: – MY MOTHER SAID made two errors in the run and was still able to win the trial in an impressive display. She broke at start, chased hard, broke stride at the 1600m before chasing the pack and moving up without cover from the 1200m mark. Despite working hard throughout, she was too good in the run to the finish. KEAYANG LAVITA came from four back on the markers and made good ground for second with KEAYANG MOSCATO being third after trailing the leader throughout. KEAYANG LAVITA will be backing up at Maryborough on Monday.

Mile Rate: – 2.7.5             Last Half: – 61.4                               Margins: – 2.5m, 3m
