He may be Plain by name but Plain Ed means plenty to Terry Sinclair, who'll have his fingers crossed when the gelding makes his debut at Geelong tonight.

The trainer joined host Toby McKinnon on SENTrack's Trots Life today ahead of his debutant's race in the Flying Brick Cider 3YO Maiden Pace, his first starter since 2015.

"Very nervous for tonight," Sinclair told Trots Life. "He's had a few trials and been a bit of a handful.

"He's still a bit ratty. I'm quite nervous tonight, I don't think he's going to go too good, but got to start somewhere and we'll go from there. I do like him, he's had some good run arounds and a couple of trials."

The chance to return to the trots means a lot to the trainer/owner, with the sport being a major outlet after illness struck.

"I got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, that was pretty life-changing," he said. "I wasn't able to drive a car, wasn't able to work.

"Being able to go to the stables each day and work the horse - they could stop me from doing everything else but they couldn't stop me from jogging my horse. Saved me, got me back on track again."
