Chris Lang has talked his past, present and future in a wide-ranging chat with Paul Campbell for the latest edition of the Tooth Be Told podcast.
Almost 12 months since the champion trotting trainer flagged his return to the sport, Lang has outlined what lured him back to the stable.
“I believe what drew me back again, you get a lot of fulfilment out of training horses and being around horses,” Lang said. “When they win, you know we have a lot of lows, but we have highs. You can’t replace that (and) … I actually think harness racing has more to offer than a lot of other industries.”
Lang said he averaged training about 25 horses at a time prior to the lay-off, “which was a good number”, and is in the process of rebuilding his base.
“We had 10 horses virtually on the first day. it was lovely to think that people still had that confidence in you and you are grateful for that. I would like to have a few more horses, 12 or 14 doesn’t seem to be enough for me.
“I like training trotters and I like training more than 12, so I’m hoping I’ll be up to 18, if I can get a few more that’d be great. There a lot of things I’m doing differently. We are probably another six or 12 months off what I’d say is fully operational.”
