Trotters FFA: The Boss Man travelling “very well”

With confusion reigning over just who sits where in Australasia’s elite squaregaiting ranks The Boss Man’s return in tomorrow night’s Aldebaran Park Chris Howe Trotter Free For All and has the capacity to shake things up even further.

An outstanding commodity when fully fit Ellen Tormey’s multiple Country Cup king trialled spectacularly at Maryborough recently and looks a legitimate threat to Tornado Valley and Kyvalley Blur.

Despite possessing more than his fair share of early speed, Tormey indicated that The Boss Man was best driven for his stunning speed and that he thrived over longer journeys.

And for those wanting to wager, she was much more confident heading into this weekend than was typical of her nature.

“I’m just so rapt where we have him (The Boss Man) at the moment, he’s as sound as ever and the speed he showed me at the trials was very encouraging,” Tormey said.

“We won’t be going out there to bust him up this weekend but if he had the right run it also wouldn’t surprise me if he went very, very well indeed.”

Three-year-old gelding Golden Tribe took on the older horses in the Sharps Bakery Pace on Saturday night. He had to overcome the tricky barrier of 12. He was last with a lap to run but looped the field very impressively to win.

Mission accomplished.

The decision to swing more major races on to Victoria Cup night and make it an extravaganza has worked, even three weeks before it plays out.
