The Bendigo area are saddened by the passing of well known Bendigo resident Barry Lyons aged 79 on October 19.

Well known throughout the Bendigo area, Barry raced many horses with success and was a member of the BHRC committee for over 10 years while also spending a three year term as vice president of the club. It was only around three months ago that he was awarded life membership.

He was licensee of the Windemere Hotel in Kangaroo Flat while also having Hotels in Ravenswood and the Newmarket Hotel in Bendigo.

Barry was a Bendigo councillor for a ten year term and held the position of Lord Mayor for two years.

There would not be many in Bendigo who didn’t know Barry who was always so approachable.

He is to be buried at the Muckleford Cemetery on Tuesday October 29th at 10.30am.

Barry is survived by wife Betty and children Tracy, Barry, Sharon, Jack and Karen.
