Vale Brian Barry

Brian Barry, a well known horseman in the Gippsland/Latrobe Valley region and the last president of the Traralgon Harness Racing Club, passed away on Tuesday aged 83.

Brian served as president of the eastern Victorian club from October 1991 until its final race meeting in November 1995.

However, his involvement with the sport locally went much further than that – he had been a vice-president of the club since the mid 1980s, and the Barry family always had a horse or two in work to support local race meets.

Brian was a great example of a person who dedicated so much of his time to the cause of the local trotting industry. The old Traralgon minutes show that he attended the very first meeting to establish the Latrobe Valley Trotting Club in the mid 1960s and he was there right to the very end.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Harness Racing Victoria extends its condolences to Mr Barry’s family and friends.
