Vale Dorrie Schmedje

Echuca Harness Racing Club is saddened by the passing of club Life Member Dorrie Schmedje on Wednesday.

Dorrie came from a trotting family and when she married Len Schmedje her keen interest in harness racing brought him into the sport.

When their family attended the trots they all helped with the horses and the sport was a family activity they embraced whenever possible.

Dorrie helped her father train over the years then Dorrie and Len owned, bred and trained a number of horses and had a few winners to show for it, including three-time winners Tycoon Love and Quentin Abbey and two-time winner Banash.

She maintained a strong interest in harness racing when she retired, with both Dorrie and Len continuing their involvement with Echuca Harness Racing Club.

Yvonne and Pam, Dorrie’s daughters, are carrying on the family tradition and have a strong connection with the club.

The club and Harness Racing Victoria extend their condolences to all family and friends.

It was a day to remember for Aaron Dunn. Not only did he go back-to-back from last year to this year in the Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup, he also trained the quinella, with Forty Love taking the honours and last year’s winner Dee Roe finishing second, driven by Jackie Barker.

While the ink is far from dry on the $500,000 Summer Of Glory bonus cheque, superstar mare Keayang Zahara is on track to provide her connections with a windfall after her effortless win in the Group 1 $100,000 Aldebaran Park Maori Mile.
