Victorian harness racing lost one of its most passionate supporters last Wednesday following the passing of John McEwan at the age of 82.

A prominent administrator and owner, McEwan, a regular at race days throughout the state each season, enjoyed great success with horses such as Posh Jaccka (Ballarat Oaks), Computerize (1996 Tontine Series), Libra Jaccka and Eve Of Eden, plus a host of other handy horses all raced mainly in syndication.

He loved nothing more than to attend the big carnivals, especially an Inter Dominion.

McEwan was a long-time committee member of Echuca Harness Racing Club, including serving as president for 16 years. He also served on the Elmore and Shepparton committees.

He was president of the Victorian Country Clubs Association, operating as manager out of an office when it was based in Melbourne and later shifted to Bendigo.

McEwan was thrilled when his contributions were acknowledge with a Harness Racing Victoria Distinguished Service Medal, celebrating his long career in the sport.

Harness Racing Victoria sends its condolences to McEwan's family and friends.
