Prominent harness racing identity Mark Hoare has passed away after a battle with cancer aged 66.
Mark spent his early days working at the Trotting Control Board before his first foray into horse syndication at Pacers Australia with Terry Henderson.
Pacers Australia purchased Chokin in 1990 as a two-year-old and the pacer was named New Zealand Pacer Of The Year in four consecutive years as a Two, Three, Four-Year-Old and Aged Pacer.
Mark also tried his hand at ‘race calling’ calling the trials at Yarrambat perched up in the back of a truck.
In later years Mark formed his own syndication business under the name of Raceapacer in a joint venture with Harness Racing Victoria.
Raceapacer enjoyed success with multiple Group 1 placegetter Rhodium Castle along with metropolitan winner Jewell Castle and Diamond Castle.
The group also raced the mare Rockin Shiraz who is the dam of multiple Group 1 winning mare Rockinwithattitude.
Mark also operated a thoroughbred syndication under the banner of Pacific Bloodstock.
Mark is survived by his partner Sue.
